Plácido Domingo and Sissel in 'Sacred Songs'

A very cool 'making-of' short film featuring my favorite tenor of all time, Plácido Domingo, and my favorite female artist of all time, Sissel Kyrkjebø, together in the recording studio. The two sang both Ave Maria to the tune of the intermezzo from Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana", as well as the aria "Bist du bei mir" from the lost opera "Diomedes oder die triumphierende Unschuld" by Stölzel. The two talk about sacred songs, each other, classical music, and what it means to them. A great little featurette!

BBC - Sacred Music - Bach and the Lutheran Legacy - Part 1/6

Simon Russell Beale explores the flowering of Western sacred music. With music performed by The Sixteen, conducted by Harry Christophers, Beale explores how Martin Luther, himself a composer, had a profound effect on the development of sacred music, re-defining the role of congregational singing and the use of the organ in services. Ultimately, these reforms would shape the world of JS Bach and inspire him to write some of the greatest sacred music. www.open2.net Part 1: www.youtube.com Part 2: www.youtube.com Part 3: www.youtube.com Part 4: www.youtube.com Part 5: www.youtube.com Part 6: www.youtube.com UPDATE: Subtitles added.

This is a musical number from the second act of Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life". Please keep in mind the Catholic who is singing the lead does not believe in contraception... and neither do his many, many children, who are singing the backup. And yes, that IS a Chinese dragon in the background of the finale. How it got there... don't ask, don't tell.

Arabic folk music- Mūsīqā ʿArabīyya - موسيقى عربية

Arabic music or Arab music (Arabic: موسيقى عربية; Mūsīqā ʿArabīyya) is the music of the Arab World, including several genres and styles of music ranging from Arabic classical to Arabic pop music and from secular to sacred music. Arabic music, while independent and very alive, has a long history of interaction with many other regional musical styles and genres. It is an amalgam of the music of the Arabs in the Arabian Peninsula and the music of all the peoples that make up the Arab World today. It also influenced and has been influenced by Egyptian, Cypriot, Greek, Persian, Kurdish, Assyrian, Turkish, Indian, African (ie North African, Berber and Swahili) and European music (ie Flamenco). As was the case in other artistic and scientific fields, Arabs translated and developed Greek texts and works of music and mastered the musical theory of the Greeks (ie Systema ametabolon, enharmonium, chromatikon, diatonon).[1]

Lotfi Bouchnak Fes Festival 2000 لطفي بوشناق - موال يا سعاد

Lotfi Bouchnak Fes Festival of World Sacred Music 2000 LOTFI BOUCHNAK was born in Tunis into a family of Bosniak background (as his name indicates it). He was, from his early childhood, fond of music and particularly of OM KALTHOUM whose rich musical repertoire had a significant influence on his music style. He began gradually attending Sufi circles, and received his musical education from leading Tunisian composers such as the maestro Mohamed AZOUZE, Ali SRITI and so on. According to music experts, his impressive vocal performances have helped him master several types of music: not only the Manouva, the Tunisian traditional music, but also Tunisian local folk songs, the music of Andalusia, the Middle- East area, Europe and Asia. He started his career as a composer in the mid 1980s, and his popularity started to extend across the Arab world. His musical performances at the Arab Music Festival of Cairo were a landmark in the history of Arab music, through which he won over music loving audiences in all the Arab world. Nowadays, he plays all over the world including Arabic countries and Europe, where he has received several awards. People call him "The Ambassador of Arab Music", because of his wide association with many musical leaders. So far he has produced 15 albums that were released and distributed from Tunis, Cairo, Jeddah, Paris, Rome, and London. Miserere Mei Deus

This piece is Psalm 51, but first set to music by Allegri around 1630. It is one of the finest and most popular examples of renaissance polyphony. It is often heard in Churches of the apostolic Christian tradition on Ash Wednesday, immediately following Shrove (or pancake) Tuesday, marking Christ's return to Jerusalem. Beautifully performed here by The Sixteen, listen out for the simplicity, humility and reverence.

Honoring Dave Brubeck with his sons Jazz quintet

Kennedy Center Dec. 6.2009 David Warren "Dave" Brubeck (born December 6, 1920)[1] is an American jazz pianist. He has written a number of jazz standards, including "In Your Own Sweet Way" and "The Duke". Brubeck's style ranges from refined to bombastic, reflecting his mother's attempts at classical training and his improvisational skills. His music is known for employing unusual time signatures, and superimposing contrasting rhythms, meters, and tonalities. His long-time musical partner, alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, wrote the Dave Brubeck Quartet's best remembered piece, "Take Five",[1] which is in 5/4 time and has endured as a jazz classic. Brubeck experimented with time signatures throughout his career, recording "Pick Up Sticks" in 6/4, "Unsquare Dance" in 7/4, and "Blue Rondo à la Turk" in 9/8. He is also a respected composer of orchestral and sacred music, and wrote soundtracks for television such as Mr. Broadway and the animated miniseries This Is America, Charlie Brown.
