The vastness of the scale of the project and his distinctive style has made it one of the main symbols of the city and one of the obligatory mass tourism. The project is based on the reconstructed versions of the projects and on the lost models (a fire in 1936, hanged during the Spanish Civil War by the Republicans to the atelier of Gaudí, destroyed a lot of design drawings of the famous architect), on the study of the portion of the building made personally from Gaudí and on a modern adaptations. The Sagrada Familia Finished in 3D

The Sagrada Familia cathedral/expiatory temple finished... A dream come true. Finally you can watch the astonishing beauty of Antoni Gaudi's masterpiece when completed. We are expected to wait until 2026 approximately to see it completely finished, and this year will be the centenary of Gaudí's death. The hard work will certainly pay off. It's worth to see indeed. Just look at the inside of the church. When it's night, the small lights like stars, and when it's day, you see the light come in a explosion of colours like you're in a forest. THREAD ABOUT THE NEWS AND ACTUAL STATUS OF THE CONSTRUCTION www.skyscrapercity.com

La Sagrada Familia, Holy Family, Barcelona, Spain, Antoni Gaudi

La Sagrada Familia, By Antoni Gaudi (Barcelona) La Sagrada Familia is a very large catholic church in Barcelona and Antoni Gaudi's most famous works. The church has been under construction since 1882. It was never finished in Gaudi's life time. Civil war in Spain later destroyed some of the building and Gaudi's original drawings are partly missing. Therefore today the style of the so called Wall of Death, and Ressurection of Christ, is completely changed. The Facade of Birth was almost finished in Gaudi's time giving us the opportunity to see what style that Gaudi intended for the church. There are two more facades, The Facade of Passion and of Glory. The sculptures on the Glory Facade will represent man in general and his place in God's creation, showing his origin, purpose and what he must do to accomplish it. On the passion facade, the statues stand out but there are no ornaments in the background. The forms are also very simple. In this way he wanted to depict the pain that Jesus went through to his death. The Church is expected to be finished in twenty years from now. According to other opinions, it could take even more years. The money for the construction comes partly from the fees that visitors pay. Another source of finance are donations that people all over the world make. Gaudi was deeply religious and Sagrada Familia gave him the chance to express his faith. The church is full of religious symbols. Gaudi also found inspiration in nature, and you can see it ...

Building the Sagrada Família - Antoni Gaudí i Cornet

If you mention Gaudí in Barcelona, then you also say Sagrada Família. From the east the cathedral appears completed but that is just its appearance. Gaudí was already involved in the building of the cathedral while working on Casa Milá. His predecessor Villar turned up his heels and Gaudí took over the work. He could not change the crypt anymore but he did redesign the rest of the cathedral. He never made elaborate floor plans, Gaudí solved the construction problems on the spot during building. The result is elegant and cheerful, the building constructions are always functional and 100% reliable. Today a group of 12 architects and dozens of construction workers work on the building daily, the cathedral will be completed around 2025 if the financing holds. Currently funds are generated mainly through tourists who want to see the structure up close. Gaudí had himself gone from door to door to collect money to continue the building work. After a busy day Gaudí used to walk around the city. Also on the seventh of July 1926, which would prove to be fateful. Hit by a tram he tragically died three days later in hospital. To this day Gaudí has never been equalled. He took his art and genius to the grave. Gaudí is dead, long live Gaudí. The remarkable style of the buildings designed by Antoni Gaudí i Cornet at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 29th century surpassed the national level of architecture in Spain. They include Parc Güell, Casa Vicens, Palau Güell, Casa Milá en ...

Basilica Sagrada Familia, Barcelona. Gaudi's work. (Nov 1st, 2011)

The Basilica SagradaFamilia was a project from Antoni Gaudi which is renowned for his work in Barcelona. He used the concepts found in nature and used it in architecture. The Basilica was started by Gaudi, but he died in a tram accident in 1926 leaving other's to complete his work. The inside has been rebuilt and the outside will be done by 2025. The inside has many colums inspired by plants and the roof is astonishing. The front and back of the Basilica is a piece of art. I am sorry for the video quality, it is not as good as it could be. The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família (English: Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family, commonly known as the Sagrada Família, is a large Roman Catholic church in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852--1926). Although incomplete, the church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in November 2010 was consecrated and proclaimed a minor basilica by Pope Benedict XVI. One projection anticipates construction completion around 2026, the centennial of Gaudí's death — while the project's information leaflet estimates a completion date in 2017, accelerated by additional funding from visitors to Barcelona following the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Computer-aided design technology has been used to accelerate construction of the building, which had previously been expected to last for several hundred years, based on building techniques available in the early 20th century. Current technology allows stone to be shaped off-site by a CNC milling machine, whereas in the 20th century, the stone was carved by hand.

La Sagrada Familia - Best of The 80's - CD version

Antoni Gaudí i Cornet (Catalan pronunciation: [ənˈtɔni ɣəwˈði]) (Riudoms or Reus,[3] 25 June 1852 -- Barcelona, 10 June 1926) was a Spanish Catalan architect and the best-known representative of Catalan Modernism. Gaudí's works are marked by a highly individual style and the vast majority of them are situated in the Catalan capital of Barcelona, including his magnum opus, the Sagrada Família. Much of Gaudí's work was marked by the four passions of his life: architecture, nature, religion and his love for Catalonia.[4] Gaudí meticulously studied every detail of his creations, integrating into his architecture a series of crafts, in which he himself was skilled, such as ceramics, stained glass, wrought ironwork forging and carpentry. He also introduced new techniques in the treatment of the materials, such as his famous trencadís, made of waste ceramic pieces. After a few years under the influence of neo-Gothic art, and certain oriental tendencies, Gaudí became part of the Catalan Modernista movement which was then at its peak, towards the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. Gaudí's work, however, transcended mainstream Modernisme, culminating in an organic style that was inspired by nature without losing the influence of the experiences gained earlier in his career. Rarely did Gaudí draw detailed plans of his works and instead preferred to create them as three-dimensional scale models, moulding all details as he was conceiving them in his mind.
