Tigertail II is a great example how Hunter Marine set the pace for center cockpit sailboats. The 42 Passage was built from 1990 and ended its production in 1998. The boat had a long run with almost no changes to the boat. Some say the 42 Passage is a better boat than the 420 Hunter. I agree. The boat is an amazing sailing boat even with all the cruising gear loaded aboard. The boat has a 103 PHRF rating and motors easily at 8 knots. It is built to go cruising and is a very comfortable live aboard with lots of storage room. Tigertail II has had many upgrades by the recent owner and showes very well. A bad day in the islands: drowned surfer, 2 boat wrecks and a lost kayaker. From the lanai at PBYC we saw a sail boat run aground at Magic Island yesterday. The owner, a friend and her dog got off the boat safely but the boat is a wreck and is now being salvaged. Lesson learned, always have an anchor handy.

Waking up the morning of Sept 21, 2007, I saw out of the aft cabin window a number of swallows making 'a carrier approach' to the stern of the Hunter 43 sailboat I was delivering from Olympia to Bellingham for a friend. The previous evening I entered the harbor - solo on the boat - hoping to get a free slot at the Gig Harbor public dock, but no space was available. Rather than hasseling with the problem I simply anchored out. Next morning I was awakened by birds chirping, and looked out the window near my pillow to see the 'inundation' of these birds. This video walks through the boat watching the mass of swallows from inside, and then takes a look outside. A strange happening; I saw no other boat in the anchorage that had any birds on it...they had selected only my boat to rest on for some unknown reason. My comment regarding the 'cats going bonkers' was in reference to our own two cats who sometimes travel with us on our own boat. I was narrating the video primarily for my daughter, never thinking that I might want to put this on YouTube.

Then we arrived to antarctic peninsula, we enjoyed with the first icebergs and we found a colony of penguins. You see blue tape covering the holes where I removed the barrel nuts from the outside and the inside of the ports. I did this so I could take my time and thoroughly clean them. Using a small flexible putty knife, I carefully separate the trim ring from the boat. We decided to replace our old, cloudy, leaky opening ports. One of the reasons I have delayed this project is because boat projects tend to end up being more involved than we plan or expect. As the putty knife breaks the seal I use a flat screw driver and a small hammer to completely remove the trim ring. One lucky factor, we were able to purchase ports from the same company that made the original ports. Both the original and the new opening ports come from Beckson, out of Connecticut. My biggest concern with tackling this project was how much rotten core I would have to deal with after removing the old ports. I was expecting the time consuming task of repairing the cabin house openings with epoxy. Fortune for me, the boat is solid glass where the ports are installed. Using a utility knife, I cut though as much of the old silicone bedding as I can. I keep going around <b>...</b>
