As Sam Raimi puts it, the film is a simple morality tale where the protagonist is a really good girl. She means well, and shes trying to make it in Los Angeles. Christines got a boyfriend she really cares about, and to get him, she does one bad thing. Shes makes a choice to sin; it sets the ball in motion, and the movies about payback to her. We made Christine morally complex, adds Ivan Raimi. Shes trying to get ahead in her job, like anyone else. Shes just a normal person with all of the attributes that we might have, colored in grays instead of black and white. Thats what makes her interesting to me. The Sam Raimi flicks are good standalone movies (The first two) but as Spider-Man adaptations, they really lacked the heart and soul of what made us love the comics. When the entire high school setting is rushed/cut out in favor of "growing him up", You lose a crapton of character development! He was just a kid going thru the roughest time of his life. Dealing with being a social outcast,having these new powers that alienate him even more and being inadvertently responsible for his Uncle's death.Peter had to man up and accept that with great power comes great responsibility. He was a boy stepping in to a man's shoes. THAT is why it is not called Spider-Boy, but Spider-MAN. And before somebody gets on my case saying Sam Raimi was FORCED to add in Venom (Which SONY did do) and that is what solely killed the movie, Spider-Man 4 was looking just as bad if not worse.Just because something is an ADAPTATION does not give you free reign to do whatever the heck you want.He (Sam) has been screwing characters up since the first film and planned to strike again (NOT FORCED AT ALL). In a new city, a familiar face emerges out of the darkness. This short film was created and inspired out of love for Sam Raimi's Darkman. A WORD FROM CHRIS With the hope of reigniting a demand for Darkman, with myself in the director's chair, I created this short film. Shot on a zero dollar budget in just 2 hours, my goal was to demonstrate what I could do with the character. I wanted to show a more realistic Darkman with no whimsical music or operatic undertones. I feel that a modern day Darkman would be more appealing if it were done as straight forward as possible. But I definitely wanted to keep as many signatures as possible, starting with the London fog rain coat, the hat & bandages all the way down to his red shirt. I really wanted him to be as familiar and instantly recognizable. I think for a seven minute movie, I accomplished my goal and with any luck, should something official involving Darkman ever come into development, hopefully this video will serve as convincing cover letter. On that note, Mr. Raimi, if you're watching this video or reading this note- call me.
