The Dictator On SLN 'Saturday Night Live' with Martin Scorsese: Saturday Night Live has always been a venue through which movie stars can publicize an upcoming release. It's also the kind of place where familiar names and faces pop up at the drop of a hat. Sacha Baron Cohen, in character as Admiral General Aladeen, stopped by Weekend Update to talk about his upcoming film, 'The Dictator.' He brought with him a very special guest/kidnapping victim who knows a thing or two about cinema. If you've been following the marketing for 'The Dictator,' you probably already have a pretty solid handle on the kind of schtick Cohen breaks out for the performance. He discusses the films he made in his homeland (including 'You've Got Mail Bomb' and 'The Fourteen Year Old Virgin') and reads a glowing review from New York Times film critic AO Scott (scrawled on a blood-splattered piece of paper, of course). Finally, he brings in a legendary filmmaker to vouch for his film's quality once and for all. From Wikipedia: Belushi achieved national fame for his work on Saturday Night Live, which he joined as an original cast member in 1975. Between seasons of the show, he made one of his best-known movies, Animal House. As several Belushi biographies have noted, on John's 30th birthday (in 1979), he had the number one film in the US (Animal House), the number one album in the US (The Blues Brothers: Briefcase Full of Blues) and Saturday Night Live was the highest-rated late night television program. When interviewed for retrospectives on John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd told stories of John often finishing SNL rehearsals, shows or film shoots and, exhausted, simply walking unannounced into nearby homes of friends or strangers, scrounging around for food and often falling asleep, unable to be located for the following day's work. This was the impetus for the SNL horror-spoof sketch "The Thing That Wouldn't Leave", in which Belushi torments a couple (played by Jane Curtin and Bill Murray) in their home looking for snacks, newspapers and magazines to read, and taking control of their television. In an unfortunate foreshadowing, during the opening of the episode of SNL that aired on December 17, 1977, Belushi, while in character as himself, quipped, "I plan to be dead by the time I'm 30." First off, this is not the exact original performance, but you will love it anyway. Chris Farley is brilliant as a motivational speaker in this classic Saturday Night Live skit. Chris Farley's full scene, loaded with great lines. There is about one minute missing from the intro where mom and dad tell the kids that they've hired a motivational speaker to come and sort them out, and the same sort of thing is cut out from the end. Farley's full performance is intact. The video image is also reversed just so it could be put on Youtube, because if you try to upload the genuine article, they (SNL rights owners) will prevent it from being published because of copyright issues. Kristen Wiig got a musical sendoff on the season finale of "Saturday Night Live" as the popular and versatile cast member made her exit after seven years. In the show's final sketch, guest host Mick Jagger played the principal at a high school graduation and brought up Wiig, in cap and gown, as "one particular student who is leaving this summer." She danced in turn with Jagger, cast members and executive producer Lorne Michaels to the tune of the Rolling Stones classic "She's a Rainbow." Then the ensemble sang another Stones hit, "Ruby Tuesday," with its line, "still I'm gonna miss you." Wiig appeared to be holding back tears. Though NBC had made no prior announcement of her departure, it comes as no surprise. She starred in and co-wrote the hit comedy "Bridesmaids," and even before that had notable roles in "Friends With Kids," "Paul," "Adventureland" and "Knocked Up," among other films. She has six more in various stages of development.
