Saudis slammed for usual rights abuse, never for exporting revolution

While some Saudis enjoy the trappings of immeasurable wealth and privilege - the majority of the population struggles with daily oppression. And while ignoring issues in their homeland, Arab oil magnates remain committed to exporting regime change to neighbouring countries. RT's Oksana Boyko is in the region with more. Demonstrations have taken center stage in the Gulf, where tens of thousands rallied in Iran and Bahrain against the latter's integration plans with Saudi Arabia. In Bahrain crowds chanted that their country was 'not for sale', while Tehran said the proposed deal was a plot aimed at wiping the entire state off the map. Bombs & Blame: Syria accuses Saudis, Qatar of arming rebels

The Syrian regime has pointed the finger at Saudi Arabia and Qatar, saying the Arab states were involved in the chain of weekend terror blasts in Syria's largest cities. The Gulf nations have been accused by Assad's government of arming whoever carried out the attacks, which left around thirty people dead and dozens injured. Sara Marusek, a Beirut-based researcher from Syracuse University talks to RT. She says the Syrian people are falling victim to Saudi Arabi and Qatar's brutal tactics, to push their political agenda. Saudi man builds recycled guest house

Hadram Bin Shalan a retired science school teacher in the southwest Saudi town of Abha has built a guest house using recycled material from construction sites. Shalan took seven years to complete the project using eco-friendly building methods on the piece of land that was gifted to him by the government. Not only was it environmentally friendly but he also saved on costs. This guest house will bring in some income to bin Shalan now that he is retired. The former school teacher used iron, bricks, tiles, and wood to complete the house. "I worked 25 years in education and now that I am retired, I'm trying to spend my leisure time working on the guest house in a serious way," bin Shalan said. He also said that he learned how to do the plumbing and electric necessities while building the house. "It cost me a great deal of effort during these seven years, but on the financial side, it has cost me half the cost of construction because we relied on items that are usually discarded," he said. According to one of his neighbors, many people thought the project was a joke but today many weddings and birthday celebrations are being held at the guest house which gets around 2000 riyals ($530) for hosting such events. Thanks to the success of the guest house, bin Shalan has started a second project next door to accommodate more events. He hopes his success will inspire other Saudis. Saudi artists display contemporary art in exhibit

Hamza Serafi is dipping his toes in the waters of self-expression in Saudi Arabia where criticizing authorities is unthinkable, and the censoring of art and media is considered the norm. But the artist is pushing boundaries and is one of the 22 Saudis featured in an exhibit called "We need to talk", a public exhibition of 50 contemporary pieces of art, organized by Edge of Arabia. Nader, one of the organizers of the exhibition, explains how the artwork on display show prevailing conditions in the country. "This painting by Serafi called 'Bed of the World' reflects how people use the globe in the wrong way. The more they use it in the wrong way, the more warnings show up. In Australia, for example, it shows us the way energy is excessively used. There are problems in Russia with the elections. In the Arab world, there are demonstrations and re-elections. In Saudi Arabia, it's the need for positive dialogue without protests. In Africa, it's about buried toxic waste. In South America, it's about gangs and drugs." Artists in the kingdom are discovering creative loopholes to voice their opinions on a wide range of issues. The exhibit has highlighted some developments that have been underway, as guide Jehan Mahmoud points out. "I like the painting behind me because it represents women in general and shines the spotlight on the role of Saudi women in society. The artist has shown women in various roles in his photographs, as mothers, diplomats, film directors, photographers ...

Second Chance for Saudi Terrorist

United Nations, New York, April 2011- In the past two decades, Saudi Arabia realised that it was becoming a breeding-ground for young terrorists. 15 of the 19 hijackers involved in the 9/11 attacks were Saudi citizens -- and since then terror groups have become active on home soil. The Saudis have had to think of creative ways to defuse the threat. Here's our story. 21st Century - Show 53 - Second Chance for Saudi Terrorist Script (pdf)

SYRIA: Saudi admitting "Revolution" heavily armed from the Start ! ( BBC, April 2012 )

On 23.March.2011, the Syrian National TV broadcast a video-report about seized weapons in "Al-Omari" mosque in the city of Daraa, just a few days after the beginning of the unrest. See the report on SANA Website: www.sana.sy At that time, the entire world accused the Syrian government of fabricating the report. However after more than one year, here they are admitting that the terrorists of Daraa stored weapons in "Al-Omari" mosque. BBC held an interview with "Anwar Al-Eshki", a Saudi Ex-Military and now president of "Center for Strategic studies" in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He reveals information about the first days in the Syrian crisis, and he even confirms his connections with the leader of the so-called "Free Syrian Army". They have become so rude and confident, so they admit everything publicly. The Saudi pig calls the "Syrian Terrorists" as "Resistance", while the Saudis refrained from supporting any true resistance movement against Israel either in Palestine or Lebanon; not only this, but their dirty sheikhs issued fatwas in which they called on their stupid followers to aid Israel against Hezbollah in 2006, after Hezbollah managed to capture the two Israeli thugs. This is the resistance in their point of view, always against the Arabs and against any cause of justice. Yes, this Saudi the closest ally of the US and many other countries in the EU. It is the Western democracy mixed with the Saudi camel urine. This is the new "Freedom-Recipe" that we have to taste ...

Revolution imminent in Saudi Arabia

The US has kept silent on Saudi regime's human rights violations, as protests continue demanding reforms and the immediate release of political prisoners. Press TV has interviewed with Paul Wolf, Human Rights Lawyer, to share his opinion on this issue. Press TV: Riyadh has been saying that it will allow women to take part in politics but at the same time these same women if they are candidates for municipal office for instance, they must present a written authorization from their husbands, women's votes must be accompanied by their male guardians at the polling stations. So when we are again speaking of the type of reforms that the Saudi kingdom may try to bring, is this going to be the answer for these protests or as I was just mentioning earlier, our reforms completely or simply impossible with the system of absolute monarchy inside Saudi Arabia? Wolf: Well no. I do not think that the protests are specifically about women rights. I think that the Saudi monarchy has taken a number of steps including paying two thousand dollars to each citizen, providing loans for education and to start businesses to Saudi young people, a number of measures like this to try to prevent the kind of thing that we have seen in Bahrain, in Yemen and in Libya and women's rights issue is only one. You know, I like to follow up on what your previous guest said. In Saudi Arabia, cell phones with cameras are illegal. All telephone conversations are monitored. Why the Saudis' Downfall Could Impact America

05 March, 2012 - WASHINGTON -- The so-called Arab Spring just passed the 15-month mark and continues to leave chaos in its wake. Dictators are falling and radical Islamists are filling the gap across the Middle East and North Africa. Now Islamists have their sights on a bigger prize, and it could send shock waves through the United States. Saudis in Brotherhood's Crosshairs? The power gained by the Muslim Brotherhood and its allies throughout the Muslim world during the past year has also led to a growth in confidence. They call 2011 the year the dictators fell, in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, and Yemen. In 2012, the Brotherhood is targeting the monarchies. Jordan and Saudi Arabia sit on top of the list, and the Saudi royal family has wasted no time getting ahead of the game. When anti-government protests broke out in neighboring Bahrain last year, Saudi tanks rolled in to keep unrest from spilling over the border. Then, after governments fell in Tunisia and Egypt, the Saudi royals moved to appease their own restless subjects with billions of dollars in new welfare and housing programs. "It is absolutely bribery. That's what it is. When this uprising started, they started getting nervous," said Dr. Ali Alyami, of the Washington-based Center for Democracy and Human Rights in Saudi Arabia. Alyami believes the Royal Family's days are numbered. For more information: www.cbn.com -------------------------

Saudi Mass Wedding

As summer heat approaches, many young couples in Saudi Arabia are preparing for their marriages. A Jeddah Charitable society has been offering financial help to young Saudis who cannot gather enough funds to pay for their weddings. The charity held its 12th annual mass wedding on June 29th, which joined together 1200 men and women. The charity's goal is to remove the obstacles facing young people and help them build a future in which they can contribute to society. A famous Saudi actor, Faiz Al Malik, was the event's presenter, adding a touch of stardom to the ceremonies. One of the grooms, Ali Al Maliki, is blind, and is a big fan of Al Maliki. He was especially happy to meet the actor in person. The success of this year's event has encouraged the organization to stage another ceremony in three months, and needy people are encouraged to submit their request to the organization. Saudi interference-News Analysis-12-16-2011

The topic of this edition of News Analysis is Saudi interference in the Middle East. Editor of Pan-African Newswire, Abayamoi Azikiwe criticizes the US foreign policy for supporting the repressive, undemocratic Saudi regime while at the same time putting the Iran, which has elections and political participation under all kinds of pressure. Director of IGA, Ali al-Ahmad says the main fear of the Saudis is of a democratic state in their neighborhood and he states that it is because of this fear that the Saudis are meddling in the affairs of other regional countries. Professor of Law at Georgetown University Daoud Khairallah says Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf countries are against the Arab Spring because they are against democracy and self-rule.

Saudi's King Abdullah back home after recovery

Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz returned to the world's top oil exporter on Wednesday after spending three months abroad for medical treatment, state television said. Hundreds of men in white robes performed a traditional Bedouin sword dance on special carpets laid out at Riyadh airport as they prepared to greet the monarch. Television presenters wore special scarves in the colors of the Saudi flag in special coverage termed "the joy of a nation" to mark the king's return. The Saudi monarch has earlier announced a series of economic reforms that included housing and other benefits for Saudis ahead of his return, the state TV said. The economic reforms included a decision to increase social security budget by 1 billion riyals and housing fund capital by 40 billion riyals, as well as a decision to make a 15 percent cost of living allowance permanent for government employees, the state-run TV reported. The announcements included pardoning some Saudi nationals jailed for failing to meet debt obligations and paying their debt by the government. Under the king's measures announced on Saudi TV, the state will pay aid for unemployed young people and tuition fees to study abroad, while waiving loans. The announcements also included funding for literary clubs, students studying abroad and social security funds.
