Clegg, who is white, formed a racially diverse band, Jukula, in the 1980's - during the time of Apartheid. Because they were diverse, they were not allowed to perform in public. His music received almost no airplay in his home country and was jailed for his political music. Because of these events, his music became popular and he returned with a second band, Savuka. Savuka is based on the Zulu phrase "we have risen" or "we have awakened". One of their songs, "Scatterlings Of Africa" is featured on the "Rain Man" soundtrack. Went to Costa Rica stayed at the Occidental Allegro Papagayo Hotel. What an amazing place so unspoilt, serrene and beautiful. Checkout the tame Tuncans and white face monkeys (could actually hand feed them). Also saw crocodiles, howler monkeys, spider monkes & iguana's.... So much wildlife to appreciate out there. The people there are very friendly and enjoy life (pura vida is their saying out there and means enjoy life!). Also enjoy the Johnny Clegg and Savuka song - Great Heart, what a tune. We know it's a song of Africa song, but Costa Rica did remind us of Durban South Africa in some ways. Costa Rica is in central America what a beautiful place, rainforest and volcano's everywhere you go, great beaches and waves to surf on - tamarindo beach for one.
