Dog Rescue in Nakon Sawan Flood (English)
When heavy flooding hit the residents of Nakon Sawan people were forced to abandon their pets and flee to higher ground. Sangduen (Lek) Chailert took a team of volunteers and staff from the Elephant Nature Foundation to bring food and medicine and care for as many of the suffering and starving animals as possible. The animals are now being cared for at a temple by the Foundation's resident vet and volunteers. Check back later this week for an update.

"Sawan Ki Ghata" is an Indian Hindi film made in 1966. Starring Manoj Kumar, Shramila Tagore, Mumtaz and Pran. Directed and produced by Shakti Samanta. Music by OP Nayyar..... Asha Bhosle (Marathi: आशा भोंसले) (born September 8, 1933) is an Indian singer. She is best known as a Bollywood playback singer, although she has a much wider repertoire. Her career started in 1943 and has spanned over six decades. She has done playback singing for over 1000 Bollywood movies and sold many records. She is the sister of the equally accomplished Lata Mangeshkar. Asha Bhosle has won seven Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards out of 18 nominations. She won her first two awards in 1967 and 1968, when Lata Mangeshkar still used to accept the award (Mangeshkar asked not to be considered for the award nominations after 1969 to promote new talent). After receiving the award in 1979, Bhosle emulated her elder sister and requested that her name not be considered for the nominations hereafter. Despite this, Bhosle is the most frequent winner of this award to date, tying with Alka Yagnik. She was later given a Special Award for Rangeela in 1996, and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001. I'd like to start posting, on occasion, a series on so-called "dual version" songs - where an RDB-scored film contains two variations of the same tune. Here is the first set, from the film Jurmana (1979), one of the rare films of Amitabh Bachchan's heydays where his character has somewhat of a negative role - that of a rich Casanova named Inder who toys with the emotions and life of the heroine Rama (Rakhee). In this two-parter, the first half portrays their budding relationship via a slow tempo with dramatic interludes presenting Vinod Mehra as the third wheel in this love triangle. The latter half is picturized on an ostracized Rama, now a famous singer, who is recognized by Inder via her radio performance. This part features a quicker tempo of music, yet more melancholy lyrics and facial emotions. It's odd that the "happy" version would be slower and the "sad" faster, as that would be the complete opposite of what one would expect from such multiple version songs... but Panchamda has a knack for turning conventional wisdom on its head. It works surprisingly well in any case, what with Rakhee's acting ability and Lata Mangeshkar's flawless renditions!
