GRITtv: Danny Schechter: Economic Organized Crime

The economic crisis needs to be investigated using RICO laws used against organized crime, says Danny Schechter, author and director of Plunder: The Crime of Our Time. Wall Street made billions off mortgage fraud, and all the busts of mortgage lenders in the world won't get the real culprits. Schechter joins Laura in studio to talk about the unreported story of the economic crisis, which continues to haunt millions of Americans, and which Paul Krugman recently referred to as the third depression. Danny Schechter's New Documentary PLUNDER (teaser trailer)

Nicknamed "The News Dissector," independent filmmaker Danny Schechter has released a new documentary, called 'Plunder', based on his book, "Plunder: Investigating Our Economic Calamity and the Subprime Scandal". The film looks at the recent economic calamity from an objective point of view, and touches on all aspects of the crisis; subprime mortgages, the credit crisis, Bernie Madoff, and the role of the government to name a few. The teaser trailer shows clips of regular citizens, businessmen, newscasters and former president Bush discussing the economic crisis. Words like "depression" and "class war" thrown out there, and it is clear that this documentary seeks to get to the bottom of what caused this crisis, and what we can do to get out of it. Will you support this film? Behind the scenes of OWS-INfocus-11-06-2011

www.presstv.com Occupy Wall Street has just celebrated its 30th day in the park. On Saturday, it inspired solidarity actions in 1000 cities and that is considered as an incredible achievement. We have heard a lot about what they stand for but not how they organized to make this happen. This occupation runs like a village with lots of participation from a diverse group of articulate people. "Behind the scenes of occupy Wall Street is an organization that is pretty invisible. It is decentralized, it's bottom up and it's organized into working committees," editor of the Mediachannel.org, Danny Schechter says. In this edition of the show we will take you behind the scenes of Occupy Wall Street to show you how it all works.

GRITtv: Danny Schechter: Foreclosure Fraud and Bank Bailouts

The controversy over home foreclosures is spreading--today, the White House blog and twitter announced that President Obama would not sign a bill that could have an impact on foreclosure documents because of the ongoing problems. In a nutshell, huge numbers of Americans have found themselves foreclosed on by banks that had faulty or incomplete documents. Three major firms have actually declared freezes on foreclosures, and Congress is calling for an investigation. But what does all this mean for most of us? Danny Schechter joins Laura in studio to explain the situation, why it's more complicated than a few mortgages, and why it could lead to another major banking crisis. He also weighs in on the privatization of fire departments, and notes that in the US, "Property rights trumps human rights." Distributed by Tubemogul.

Cliff Schechter Calls Wayne Rogers a "Moron"

Hallelujah! Last Saturday during the show Cashin' In that aired both on FOX News Channel and FOX Business Network, Cliff Schechter, author of of "The Real McCain" gave as good as he got when confronted by the usual barrage of pro-business blather dished out by regulars Jonathan Hoenig, Jonathan Max Ferris, Wayne Rogers and Tracy Byrnes. At one point Wayne Rogers called Schechter - a graduate of the Wharton School of Business - an "idiot" so Mr. Schechter returned the favor, calling Rogers a "moron." Democratic strategist Sasha Burns was also good in this clip, but it's Schechter who steals the show! Not much solid business discourse, but, boy, it's fun to watch a liberal finally duke it out with these conservative Wall Street types.
