Scientific Tuesdays - Crush Metal with Water!

Get the shirts: bit.ly Facebook: facebook.com In today's Scientific Tuesday episode we are going to crush cans using water! Why it works: When the water boils it pushes all the air out of the can. and if you quickly cool it it causes all the water vapor to condense which makes a vacuum inside of the can. That means the air pressure outside of the can is stronger than inside so the can collapses in on itself. Pretty cool.

The electrical current is traveling through battery, into the screw and wire in a normal fashion. It spins as the current travels through it.

Taking the same basic idea behind a spud gun, we can make it smaller and more portable and launch tennis balls instead of vegetables. Check out JackThreads here: jackthreads.com More information: In order to pull this off you will need to find some strong tubing that will tightly hold a tennis ball. I used a defunct leaf blower tube. Place your tube into a strong base and form a seal using duct tape. Make sure to wrap the tape around several times to create a very strong seal, we do not want air escaping. The fuel we used was about a second worth of hair spray. Once the fuel is added you should shake the tube for 20 seconds and make sure everything inside is vaporized. To ignite the fuel source you can take apart a BBQ lighter and remove the piezoelectric igniter inside. Take the two wires attached and place them into the tube, when the button is pushed the fuel will ignite. Follow on Twitter here: twitter.com
