Display scroller with EEPROM support

This a revisited version of the display scroller shown in the previous video. The hardware is the same (except that the display's common anode is connected to PB0 and the second one, currently disconnected via software, is connected to PB1 -- yes, there should be a couple of transistors there). The controller, for those who haven't seen the other video or are too lazy to look at the tags, is an ATtiny2313 (2 KB flash, 128 byte SRAM, 128 byte EEPROM). I rewrote the software so that the message is read from the EEPROM: it reads each byte and encodes it for the display, then waits and reads the next one. Whenever it reads 0xff (unprogrammed), it starts reading from the EEPROM address 0x00. I could have used another string terminator, such as 0x00, but I'm lazy and went for the default unprogrammed state. empty.eep contains 128 0xff bytes, and it's used so that I can erase the EEPROM only: sending an erase command erases both the flash and the EEPROM, although there is a fuse setting to have the EEPROM persist over an erase cycle; that's exactly the reverse of what I would need, though, hence the "erasing" file.

This was the first one of the Duke Nukem series - also called "Duke Nukum" because Apogee was worried about possible lawsuits. It's sequels were named "Duke Nukem" again because that name wasn't registered yet. In this video you can see the shareware version. Watch my channel for more about DOSBox!

WIZnet 2007 Design Contest 2nd Place Winner

A video demonstration of my entry for the WIZnet 2007 design contest. WIZnet makes Ethernet controllers with integrated hardware TCP/IP stacks. The contest goal was to use their W5100 controller in a project of any application. I made an Internet connected LED News Ticker. It strips news headlines from the BBC world news RSS feed every 15 minutes and scrolls them across the display. DHCP and DNS are implemented, along with a cut-down XML parser. The display consists of 8 8x8 LED matrices each connected to their own PCB. A PIC18F2221 is used for controlling, while PFETs and TPIC6C596 power shift registrs are used to drive the LEDs. The PCBs constantly refresh the display while waiting for display data from the main board. The main board handles all networking functions and display/scrolling functions. A PIC18F2525 is used along with the WIZ810MJ module. Edit: I won 2nd place :D www.circuitcellar.com

Me And My Katamari 2D bonus stage Day

This is the awesome 2D bonus game in Me and My Katamari. I did fairly well but not spectacularly. Torecord this I used a PSP2TV, a device that plays PSP on the TV, but that requires opening up the PSP and altering its insides. At first I ruined a PSP by trying to install one, then I paid a high price for a PSP with one already installed. And even this one doesn't work perfectly. Sorry, I don't know of any PSP-to-TV device that I can actually recommend :( More katamari videos can be found at www.wewantkatamarivideos.com

Classic Game Room HD - YOSHI'S ISLAND for Super Nintendo review

Classic Game Room HD reviews YOSHI'S ISLAND for Super Nintendo SNES from 1995! Also known as Super Mario World 2, Yoshi's Island is an amazing 16-bit side scroller with incredibly deep gameplay with intelligent design that separates it from the normal side scroller. You play as a variety of Yoshis (I didn't know there was more than one!) who are trying to rescue baby Mario's twin brother Luigi! Luigi was kidnapped!? Amber Alert! Yoshis embark on the adventure of a lifetime through 40 some stages packed with hidden items, coins, flowers and bad guys. Jump, hop, run and eat enemies. After eating them Yoshi can turn them into eggs which he shoots at objects or just spit them out as projectiles. Very clever! While it may look like a children's game Yoshi's Island is much more. Amazing visuals, well produced music and gameplay that is miles ahead of most games makes this one a must play for fans of Mario games and side scrollers. This CGR review of Yoshi's Island has gameplay from the SNES game cartridge, Yoshi's Island showing game play from Super Nintendo in action during the review of Yoshi's Island, Super Mario World 2.

1 - Java 2D Game Tutorial/Help (part 1) - Side-scrolling game

(This is part 1 of 2) This tutorial will teach you how to make a Java side scroller 2D game such as Super Mario. Points to note: A) You can loop the background so that your character stays in one spot and the background moves (like how it is in old Mario games) B) You can use different images for your "main character" such as one of him walking left, crouching, etc. so that when you press left it seems as if the character actually turns left C) You can add jumping capabilities by using a thread and a run method to make it look like the jump is animated (I've talked about this in previous videos) D) For every other object you add (such as an "enemy" that must be killed or a missile that is shot) you must create another class to hold that item's x coordinates, y coordinates, etc. If you need help implementing any of the above items send me a message and I will send you code to do so since I'm working on a full side scroller (2D and 3D) with enemies, missiles, save points, etc. Also, I will make videos in the future talking about some basics of these items. Thank you

Classic Game Room HD - REVENGE OF SHINOBI Genesis review Pt1

Part 1 of 2. (audio remixed to sound correct) Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of THE REVENGE OF SHINOBI for the Sega Genesis 16-bit video game system. The Sega Genesis game console (aka the Mega Drive Megadrive) is CHRHD's favorite gaming system, and it's no surprise that Revenge of Shinobi is one of our favorite games. This two parters looks at this amazing side scrolling action game and what sets it apart from the rest. What we need is more 2d two dimentional side scrollers on game systems like the Playstation 3 PS3 and Xbox 360 and Wii. Although some platformers and 2 D side scrollers have hit Xbox Live Arcade XBLA we want brand new ones that combine old school action with martial arts mayhem, great stories, fun gameplay and characters. Revenge of Shinobi has it all! Break out the Genesis and enjoy a couple games of Shinobi.... Disco Shinobi of course. They should remake this game for 2008, 2009, 2010, or 2011, a remade Shinobi sequel for a new gamer system would be amazing. Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD. The HD series is reviewing PS3, PS2, Genesis, NES, Atari and Xbox 360.
