My brief take on the 377A Penal Code by Nicole Seah (佘雪玲) on Tuesday, 26 April 2011 at 16.46 A number of people have asked me about my stand on Penal Code 377A which criminalises homosexuality, because of the current situation with Vincent SDP. My personal take on this is very clear. But it is not in line with many parties' stances apart from SDP, because it is a touchy topic. Singaporeans should ask themselves this - Regardless of whether you are homophobic or otherwise, do you think it is right to say that these people have committed a crime, being who they are? Do you think that we need a law to cast a darker shadow over the way they live, in ADDITION to the current stigma that is already prevalent throughout society? Many have argued that passing such a law will dilute the nuclear family unit. As I mentioned before, reality is not as simple as rhetoric. Item A will give you Item B in a mathematics formula, but reality is such that there are so many other factors at play. Think about it. So what is eroding the fabric of society? Is 377A even as big a problem as it is made out to be? Single mums not being entitled to benefits that nuclear family units have, which may partially contribute to hindering their child's upward mobility in comparison to kids who grow up with better resources. Low-income families, having to wait for 8 months before getting a rental flat in Dakota Crescent, because there is no space and flats originally set aside for low-income families are <b>...</b>

She was a National Solidarity Party (NSP) candidate for the Marine Parade GRC in the 2011 Singaporean general election. At age 24 she was the youngest female candidate standing in the election and immediately became a target of media attention, which became increasingly pronounced as her speeches began to go viral on YouTube. During the election, she was described as the most popular Singaporean politician on Facebook, having over 100000 "likes" on the website and outranking the second most popular Singaporean politician, Singapore's former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. Background: Seah studied at CHIJ Katong Convent, Tanjong Katong Secondary School and Victoria Junior College. She graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS), where she was part of the University Scholars' Programme. She works as an executive at Starcom MediaVest Group, a brand communications company. Seah has been involved in community activities and volunteering since secondary school. SINGAPORE: A 24-year-old advertising executive is among five new candidates that the National Solidarity Party (NSP) is introducing to contest at Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency (GRC). 24-year-old Nicole Rebecca Seah Xue Ling, an executive with advertising agency Starcom MediaVest Group, will also be the youngest candidate so far. Ms Seah, who graduated from the National University of Singapore under the University Scholars' Programme, said she will be addressing cost of living issues. Her team members include 60-year-old Cheo Chai Chen, 63-year-old Ivan Yeo Tiong Boon, 29-year-old Abdul Salim Harun, and 31-year-old Spencer Ng Chung Hon. Mr Cheo Chai Chen, who joined NSP in 2006, made his first foray into politics in 1988 with the Singapore Democratic Party. He was elected to Parliament as the Member of Parliament for Nee Soon Central Single Member Constituency (SMC) in 1991. He is currently in the publishing business. Another candidate, Mr Ivan Yeo is the Managing Director of an investment company. He has been a member of the Central Executive Committee of NSP since 1994. A warehouse assistant at a logistics company, Mr Abdul Salim Harun, aspires to represent the working class, especially blue-collar workers. He was with the Workers' Party in 2005, and was the youngest candidate in the 2006 General Election at the age of 24. The fifth candidate is Mr Spencer Ng Chung Hon, the founder of an events company. Nicole Seah 佘雪玲- in her own words

Nicole Rebecca Seah Xue Ling ( 佘雪玲; born 1986) is a Singaporean who is contesting the Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency in the 2011 general election. She is a member of the opposition National Solidarity Party (NSP), and an executive at Starcom MediaVest Group. The press nicknamed her Little Nonya. Nicole Seah studied at Tanjong Katong Secondary School and Victoria Junior College - all within the Marine Parade precinct; and graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS), under the University Scholars' Programme. She is fluent in both Chinese and English. Nicole said that her first "political awakening" came in 2003 when she was a 17-year-old junior college student. She had been involved with community work since secondary school and also made house visits to deliver food to the needy. She recalled that whilst conducting a house visit, she was surprised to see an old lady who had a roof over her head but not enough money to buy a meal. That angered her because they have provided food for her for that one day, but not the rest of the days. She realised that government policies should have been implemented to tackle the root of the matter, and not rely on voluntary welfare organisations to do the job. One key issue pertinent to Nicole's campaign is the rising cost of living that is straining the middle and lower classes. She also wants to represent the voices of young Singaporeans who feel that they <b>...</b>

Besides her team members for the Marine Parade GRC, National Solidarity Party's (NSP) youngest candidate Nicole Seah also had the company of her parents, brother, boyfriend and Facebook fans during her walkabout at Aljunied Avenue 2 in Singapore. (CNN is reporting on her fight for democracy in the oppressive city-state that is Singapore.) Nicole Seah Facebook Friends Record (Jose PO - Apr 21, 2011) www.onlineusanews.com In less than two days since she announced her candidacy in coming General Election, the number of Singaporeans who joined Nicole Seah's Facebook increased from about a hundred to 2400, exceeding that of PAP candidate Tin Pei Ling whose Facebook has been in existence for quite some time. Ms Nicole Seah will be contesting in Marine Parade GRC as part of the National Solidarity Party's five-member team. The warm welcome given to 24 year old Ms Nicole Seah's candidacy by netizens contrasted that of Ms Tin who was flamed mercilessly for her young age and apparent lack of substance in the preceding two weeks. It also demolished PAP minister without portfolio Ms Lim Hwee Hua's earlier assertions that Ms Tin was 'targetted' because of her gender. Many netizens posted on Ms Nicole Seah's Facebook wall, pledging their support for her. Tan Hui Ling wrote: "You could have chosen the expressway to parliament but you did not. "I think this is in the hands of Singaporeans. And all Singaporeans, you know; maybe they know it, maybe they do not. But all of them have the power to choose, which manifesto they want. So lets bring this elections back to the Singaporeans. This is about them. This is NOT about any one else, or you know; any incumbent ruling party or ruling party (PAP). This is about the power of Singaporeans to stand up and say they want to make a change for the better, and they want to RECLAIM THIS COUNTRY AS OUR HOME." -Nicole Seah (24 Apr 2011) Nicole Seah and the National Solidarity Party (NSP) ran into PAP candidate for Marine Parade GRC Seah Kian Peng during their respective walkabouts at Serangoon Central. Although the rival teams greeted each other cordially, they disagreed about the need for SM Goh's proposed "buddy system" among MPs serving in the GRC. NSP Nicole Seah & SM Goh at Marine Parade walkabout - 24Apr2011

SINGAPORE: Singapore Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong said he is accountable for the policies put in place at the time when he was Prime Minister. Mr Goh was responding to the National Solidarity Party's comments that their team at Marine Parade will take on Mr Goh on the issue of accountability for national policies in areas such as housing and transportation. Both the PAP and NSP teams were up early Sunday morning making their presence felt among residents. New PAP face Tan Chuan Jin, was accompanied by the Senior Minister at Chai Chee. Speaking to reporters later, Mr Goh said he would be happy to hear what the opposition has to say about making him accountable for some of the country's national policies. But he stressed that any contest will be between the two teams. Mr Goh said: "Of course, I think as Prime Minister, as Senior Minister, I will be accountable for what I did surely, so I'll be very happy to hear what they have got to say. "The main thing is I am not campaigning as yet, I am just walking the ground because Nomination Day hasn't come yet so we will not be campaigning as to what they say, what we will say, but basically in Marine Parade GRC, it's (the PAP) team versus the (NSP) team. "My team has very good people and we are very confident we can sell whatever policies that the government wants to implement and of course provide better services to the whole GRC. So I'm very happy that BG Tan Chuan Jin is a member of my team." Brigadier-General Tan said one <b>...</b>

Worse, when she sought help from grassroots leaders, she was chided for the small amount. Pausing to compose herself, Seah told the estimated 10000-strong crowd, "This is the kind of problem we have.
