
Sketches of a new concept from Audi. -Info- At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show Audi will unveil the A2 Concept, a study of a B-segment model that will be positioned between the premium compact A1 and the C-segment A3. Virtually succeeding to the all-aluminum A2 launched in 1999, the new A2 is likely to have a more conventional construction, that according to the first unofficial information could be based on the MQB (Modular Querbaukaste) modular platform, with components in steel, carbon fiber and plastics. The A2 Concept features an e-tron powertrain. Additional details will follow closer to the car's debut. The Audi A2 concept is 3.80 meters (12.47 ft) long, 1.69 meters (5.54 ft) wide and 1.49 meters (4.89 ft) high. Among the distinctive elements of the car is the advanced LED technology used for the headlights, called "matrix beam", where a package of LEDs and microreflectors generate a high-resolution and non-glaring high-beam light. The exterior combines the typical lines of the brand's new models with some distinctive, hi-tech elements such as the continuous side marker light with dynamic, colored light which serves as an original turning indicator and brake light. The dark glass roof can switch to transparency with the push of a button. The interior features four individual seats, a flat floorboard and a center console attached to the driver's seat, with the rear console extending forward between the two rear seats.
