Turnigy Aerodrive Custom Brushless ESC Sensored Drive
Watch in 480P for better quality. This video shows a modified Turnigy Aero-drive C80100-130 with custom Hall Effect Sensors. The video shows the no-load currents of the Turnigy motor at high and low speeds, also shows excellent low speed control thanks to the position sensors. The Speed Controller was designed and built by me. Theoretically it'll handle up to 200 Volts, and 300 Amps with a heat-sink. Ive successfully loaded it up to 200amps at 140volts with excellent results. It has built in current limiting and thermal cut-off. The ESC can be set up for basic speed control via a reference voltage (variable resistor) or digital control via a network. The video just shows control via the switches up/down. My intentions are to use this motor and ESC for an electric motorbike. PS: the motor isnt as loud as shown in the video. www.solarfreaks.com

The Dynamite Fuze series of motors and ESCs have always been a great combination of performance and value. The designers at Dynamite have updated the entire lineup for 2012 and incorporated some cool updates. The new Fuze ESC is compatible with brushed and brushless motors, both sensorless and sensored. In addition to the new sensored capability on the ESC, there are three new sensored brushless motors to add to the mix, along with four sensorless motors. Beyond the new motors and ESCs, Dynamite also debuted a new conversion kit for the Traxxas Slash. Out of the box, the Slash features a higher CG than other trucks that are out there. This kit from Dynamite relocates the heavier components to a lower mounting point, lowering the center of gravity and improving the handling in racing conditions. Traxxas Summit Brushless Rockcrawling MMM
A video showing a Traxxas Summit crawling with a Castle Creations Mamba Monster brushless power system installed. With all the debate raging among RC enthusiasts about sensored vs. sensorless power systems, this demonstrates a sensorless motor still does a fairly commendable job of crawling when it's paired with the Summit's low geared two-speed transmission. Aside from the noise, it still shows decent control and hardly compromises on the low end of the Summit's awesomely wide fun spectrum, all while adding so much more to the high end. A sensored system would most certainly eliminate the audible clicking noise heard in the video however. At the time of creating this video, Castle firmware version 1.20 offers by far the best throttle control at low speed (no uncontrollable surging as seen with v1.21 thru 1.24).

With all the different types of motors and technologies in use, things can get quite confusing. We're here to help demystify motor tech and provide the answers you'll need in understanding your electric motor system. In addition, we've also put together a comprehensive list of terms below to help you better understand the different technologies out there, how they work and what this all means to you. Armature—The central component in a brushed motor. The commutator, stack and windings are all mounted to the armature. Brushed Motor—An electric motor that utilizes brushes rubbing against a commutator to transfer electrical current to create rotation. Brushed motors are inexpensive to produce, but require frequent maintenance to ensure the motor will continue to perform at a high level. Can—The main "body" of an electric motor. The can houses the magnets in a brushed motor and the stator in a brushless motor. Closed End Bell Motor—A brushed motor that is not designed to be readily serviced. Now with DIGITAL SOUND integrated onto the computer controlled speed controllers! Specs: Running on 5inch track, 12v Power,100 amp sensored model truck controller, 1900W Brushless motor. Loco: Width-12", Height-18" (cab-15", frame-3"), length-36". Obviously I have designed this system to be overpowered for the requirements to help prolong the life of the motor and controller for everyday use. The whole aim of this project is to power a 5" gauge loco on a singe brushless motor that is powerful enough to pull 8-12 passengers all day the DC motor allows a smooth start before the brushless takes over. Brushless motors being 98% efficient against their counterparts for these type of locos being only 60% efficient, I think you will agree 1amp per mile at 12V is quite an achievement. Gearing:pinion-8 tooth, Sprocket-20 tooth, 3/8 chain drive. 2.5:1 ratio.We have now put in another shaft to gear it a further 2.5:1 for a total of 6.25:1, this has proved to provide an enormous amount of torque but slowed the top speed down quite a bit. The lay shaft gearing to a "halfway house" 1.25:1 and changing to belt drive for smoothness has now been added. We have also added a sensored controller and 3 hall sensors. The DC motor has now been removed and a belt system in place.
