Fatal Crash Sepang 2011 Marco Simoncelli. You were the best The 24-year-old Simoncelli had his helmet knocked off in the accident, which occurred when the Italian lowsided from his bike at Turn 11. His bike veered across the track and straight into the path of Edwards and Rossi. The race was immediately red-flagged. Simoncelli, who was motionless on the track after the impact, had been fourth at the end of lap one. Edwards also fell but escaped serious injury, while Rossi, on a Ducati, was able to return to the pits.

Marco Simoncelli (20 January 1987 -- 23 October 2011) was an Italian Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. A top rider of the Italian Minimoto Championship from 1996 to 2000, Marco Simoncelli moved to 125cc bikes after taking two consecutive titles in the aforementioned discipline. After a promising first season in the 125 Honda Trophy, Simoncelli took the European 125cc title in 2002 and had a first taste of Grand Prix racing the same year. In 2003 he undertook his first full season in the World Championship with the Matteoni Racing team. A consistent point-scorer in his rookie season, he moved to the Rauch Bravo team in 2004 and scored his first Grand Prix win at a rain-soaked Jerez, but could only manage an eleventh placed finish overall. Another 125cc campaign in 2005, with the Nocable.it Race team, was completed with an improvement in the final standings in fifth place, giving Simoncelli the opportunity to leap into the quarter-litre category. A steady season saw the Italian achieve 10th position in the championship representing Metis Gilera, with whom he continued in 2007 and 2008. In 2008 Simoncelli achieved his first race victories in the 250cc class, his maiden triumph coming at his home race in Mugello, and was involved in some breathtaking battles with his rivals over the course of the year. The Gresini Honda rider lost control of his bike on the second lap of the circuit in Sepang and was hit by Colin Edwards and then Rossi as he slid across the track. The 24-year-old's helmet came off in the collision and he was taken to the medical centre for treatment, but died from his injuries. Simoncelli suffered 'serious trauma' to the head, neck and chest in the accident on lap two. The organisers cancelled Sunday's race as soon as the extent of Simoncelli's injuries became apparent. On Twitter, close friend and seven-time champion Rossi wrote: 'Sic for me was like a youngest brother. So strong on track and so sweet in the normal life. I will miss him a lot.' Spanish rider Dani Pedrosa had a dispute with fellow factory Honda rider Simoncelli earlier this season, but news of his rival's death left last season's championship runner-up reeling. Repsol Honda's Pedrosa said: 'In a tragedy like this there is not much to say. I just want to give my condolences to his family and all the people who love him.

Simoncelli's first podium finish came in the Czech Republic in August when he finished third but he bettered that with a second-place finish at the Australian GP. Se vé como recogen a Simoncelli de la pista y como tropieza uno de los comisarios y se les cae la camilla de tijera, es una verdadera vergüenza,sin collarín, sin nada, como en los años que corren se gastan tanto en seguridad y en gilipolleces y no velan por estas cosas. Ademas se vé como el padre llega al accidente y ayuda a meter a su hijo en la ambulancia. Toda una pena.
