Recorded August 19, 2008. Seville is the artistic, cultural, and financial capital of southern Spain. It is situated on the plain of the River Guadalquivir, with an average elevation of 23 feet above sea level. The population of the city of Seville is just over 700000. The population of the metropolitan area is 1.5 million, ranking as the fourth largest metropolitan area of Spain. The video begins at the Plaza de España, one of Seville's most easily recognized buildings and the epitome of the Moorish Revival in Spanish architecture. Next it is into the old quarter of the city where our first stop was the Royal Alcázar, a royal palace which was originally a Moorish fort. Next we walk to The Cathedral of Seville which is the largest Gothic cathedral and the fourth largest Christian church in the world. Our walk continues through the narrow streets of the Santa Cruz district. We were treated to flemenco music and dance during our lunch at the Macarena Hotel. After lunch I walk around the Parliament building of the autonomous community of Andalucía which was across the street from the hotel. It was back on the bus after lunch as we drive past the El Alamillo Bridge and bull ring as we drive out of town. From: timvp.com

In 711, Muslim Moors swept in from Northern Africa and conquered the Iberian Peninsula, ruling Spain for five centuries and inspiring a Europe-wide crusade among Christians to re-conquer the land. Though Muslim rule stretched as far as France, bit by bit the Moors were pushed back, and eventually expelled from Western Europe in 1492, but not before leaving a distinct mark on Andalusian culture. A prime example of Moorish influence, Seville's Alcázar provides a thought-provoking glimpse at a graceful Moorish world. Rossini - Overture from the "Barber of Seville"
Gioachino Antonio Rossini (1792 - 1868) "The Barber of Seville", or "The Useless Precaution" ("Il barbiere di Siviglia, ossia L'inutile precauzione") is an opera buffa in two acts by Gioachino Rossini with a libretto (based on Beaumarchais's comedy Le Barbier de Séville) by Cesare Sterbini. The overture, first written for "Aureliano in Palmira", is a famous example of Rossini's characteristic Italian style. The première (under the title Almaviva, or the Useless Precaution) took place on February 20, 1816, at the Teatro Argentina, Rome.
