Shel Silverstein on "The Johnny Cash Show"

Outrageous! I can't believe I haven't posted this clip already, but if I did... I can't find it now. Here's Shel doing a quick duet with Cash on Silverstein's composition "Boy Named Sue," followed by an incredibly touching solo performance of a children's song he wrote called "Daddy, What If." From April 1, 1970, in its entirety.

Erev Shel Shoshanim (Evening of Roses) - Israel Gurion & Mel Rosenberg

Erev Shel Shoshanim, one of the most famous love songs in Hebrew, 2006. The most famous rendition is that of Israel Gurion and the late Benny Amdursky (the Dudaim) from the 1960s. Mel Rosenberg, scientist, author and jazz musician learned this song as a child in Canada. Here he fulfills a lifelong dream, singing alongside Israel Gurion at the Givatayim Theater in 2006. I was stoned and I missed it - Shel Silverstein

OK. My very first edited video. Just discovered that my computer has "Windows Movie Maker". Got all the clips from Google images and the music from my CD. DUNNO MUCH ABOUT COPYRIGHTS, SO PLEASE INFORM ME BEFORE DELETING THIS VIDEO OR MY ACCOUNT!!! PLEASE. I love Shel's work. His death was as devestating to me as Jim Henson's. He wrote children's stories. But he was an adult. He knew how to appeal to adults both by relating to them and reminding them of their childhood. I read his stories as a child. I've read/heard other things as I got older. Shel was a jester who appealed to all ages. His private life was just that; private. I respect that but... I wish he had lived in MY neighborhood.

Jerusalem of Gold - Yerushalayim shel Zahav -Ofra Haza- with English Lyrics

"Jerusalem of Gold" (Hebrew: ירושלים של זהב, Yerushalayim Shel Zahav) is a popular Israeli song written by Naomi Shemer in 1967. The original song described the Jewish people's 2000-year longing to return to Jerusalem; Shemer added a final verse after the Six-Day War to celebrate Jerusalem's unification under Israeli control. At that time, the Old City was under Jordanian rule; Jews had been barred from entering, and many holy sites had been desecrated. Only three weeks after the song was published, the Six-Day War broke out. The song was the battle cry and morale booster of the Israeli troops. Shemer even sang it for them before the war and festival, making them among the first in the world to hear it. On 7 June, the Israel Defense Forces captured the eastern part of Jerusalem and the Old City from the Jordanians. When Shemer heard the paratroopers singing "Jerusalem of Gold" at the Western Wall, she wrote a final verse, reversing the phrases of lamentation found in the second verse. The line about shofars sounding from the Temple Mount is a reference to an event that actually took place on 7 June. This beautiful version is from the late OFRA HAZA.

Erev shel shoshanim - Mike Brant & Nana Mouskouri

I have made a new video mix of the Hebrew song Erev shel shoshanim by Mike Brant & Nana Mouskouri. The video is edited by combining three recordings from other YouTubers and an audio track which I also obtained from another YouTube user. Sorry for the bad audio-visual quality but since the recording was made in 1971, copies with good quality are hard to obtain. Bellow are given the lyrics in phonetical transcription. A capella: Jerusalem of Gold - Yerushalayim shel zahav

Only sound this time due to my sickening stage fright :) Lyrics in English and Hebrew: As clear as wine, the wind is flying Among the dreamy pines As evening light is slowly dying A lonely bell still chimes, So many songs, so many stories The stony hills recall Around her heart my city carries A lonely ancient wall Yerushalaim all of gold Yerushalaim, bronze and light Within my heart I shall treasure Your song and sight Back to the wells and to the fountains Within the ancient walls The sound of horn from Temples mountain Again so loudly calls From rocky caves, this very morning A thousand suns will glow And we shall go down to the Jordan By way of Jericho But when I come to count your praises And sing Hallel to you With pretty rhymes I dare not crown you As other poets do Upon my lips is always burning Your name, so dear, so old: If I forget Yerushalaim Of bronze and light and gold ... ______ Avir harim tzalul kayayin Vereiach oranim, Nisa beru'ach ha'arbayim Im kol pa'amonim Uvetardemat ilan va'even Shvuyah bachalomah, Ha'ir asher badad yoshevet Uvelibah chomah Yerushalayim shel zahav Veshel nechoshet veshel or Halo lechol shirayich ani kinor Chazarnu el borot hamayim Lashuk velakikar, Shofar kore behar habayit ba'ir ha'atikah.
