World Expo 2010 Shanghai - Australia Pavilion's multimedia showpiece
Australian pavilion was the best of the 12 or so national pavilions visited. This central piece was shown in a circular auditorium and follows three children's conversation (in mandarin) at a playground, discussing what they wish to do when they grow up. Later sections touch on Australia's vision for future, urban life and society (eg multiculturalism, quality of life). It was impressive live.

Once all the work is done some of the most dramatic competition moments are when the chocolate and sugar showpieces must be moved from the kitchen to the buffet table for judging and display. Teams are all aware of this necessity, pieces are designed so that they can be moved, and the teams practice moving their completed work. But competition is nothing like practice and anything can happen in the different conditions of the competition kitchen - especially the humidity (or lack thereof) in the Arizona desert. The question remains - which teams' work will make the table for final judging?

I know nothing about Signor Maneri, I can't find anything on the internet, & I'm not wealthy enough to have my own set of Grove. Does anyone know who he is? Chester's current instrument dates from 1876. It's a IV/66/83, renovated in 1991 (15 years after this recording was made) by David Wells of Liverpool. Performed by McNeil Robinson.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Harvard men's soccer team and the Haitian National Team played to a 0-0 tie before more than 11000 fans at Harvard Stadium Sunday afternoon. Following regulation, the Crimson and Haiti settled the contest in penalty kicks, with the Haitians winning 4-1. The game, entitled Haiti Leve, which was held to as a fundraiser benefit Partners in Health relief efforts in Haiti, drew 11513 fans. Tickets to the game were $10 for the general public and donations were accepted for this worthy cause with all the proceeds going to Partners in Health. Harvard will soon announce what the monetary donations to Partners in Health will be. After more than 90 minutes of action, Haiti and Harvard decided the contest in penalty kicks. Junior Clairssainvil converted the first try, beating Harvard's Brett Conrad. The Crimson evened the PKs, 1-1, when Scott Prozeller fired a shot past Peterson Occenat. After Haiti's Jean Garry Rubin put his team up by one, Ben Tsuda missed on his chance, as Haiti led, 2-1. Maxim Vengerov - Carmen Fantasie
Carmen Fantasie (1946) is a virtuoso showpiece for violin and orchestra. It is considered by many to be one of the hardest pieces in the violin repertoire. The piece is part of Franz Waxman's score to the movie Humoresque. The music, based on various themes from Georges Bizet's opera Carmen (and an adaptation from the similarly titled work of Pablo de Sarasate), was initially meant to be played by Jascha Heifetz. However, he was replaced by a young Isaac Stern for the first recording of the score. Stern's hands can be seen in the close-up shots from the movie. The piece was immediately popular, and was recorded commercially by Stern and Heifetz the year of its release. As the violin edition of the work was composed and first recorded in 1946 it is under copyright. Since then, it has been adapted for a variety of orchestral/chamber arrangements, such as a versions for trumpet and orchestra, for violin and piano, as well as for viola and piano/orchestra. Maxim Alexandrovich Vengerov (born August 20, 1974) is an Israeli violinist who was born in the Soviet Union. Born in Novosibirsk to Aleksandr and Larissa Vengerov, both his parents were musicians. His mother, a singer, was the director of a childrens orphanage, while his father was the first oboist of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. It's not new, but also not well known. Though more research is needed, sufferers may lack certain neurological filters when it comes to processing certain types of soft sounds — usually eating sounds, though there are many other possible triggers. It's also possible the ears distort certain sounds causing them to be filtered through the limbic system. The sound is then treated as a physical threat (like feeling a spider on your arm), and creates a fight or flight response where the sufferer has no ability to stop and think about whether there is actually a threat or not. The sufferer has an immediate urge to escape (heart rate rises, stress chemicals are released, etc.). If they cannot escape (flight), they lash out in self-defense (fight) — usually verbally at the offender — but it could also be directed inward in a self-destructive manner. In retrospect, sufferers know that there was/is no danger or threat — but these reactions don't give the opportunity to think first — it's a gut reaction (even when you're waiting for the next torturous 'crunch'). Ultimately, the person can feel in a state of "threat" for very long periods of time by constant exposure to a multitude of triggering sounds (and movements). Pastry chefs from eight countries are vying for the title of world's best patisserie maker. Lets take a look. STORY: Top patisserie chefs from France, Italy, The United States, Singapore, China, Malaysia, Australia and Japan showed off their creative flare. The 13-hour competition was split over two days. The chefs competed in categories like sugar showpieces, chocolate showpieces, and mmmmm plated deserts. Performed with verve and abandon by pianist Reid Nibley, with Maurice Abravanel and the Utah Symphony Orchestra. Louis Moreau Gottschalk was born in New Orleans in 1829. Early on, he showed musical talent, and studied with Berlioz. He drew from Creole and Negro melodies for his compositions. A pianist, he gave performances internationally. In 1869, while in Brazil, he contracted yellow fever, which was fatal. After his death, over two dozen compositions were discovered--including this 'Grande Tarantelle'.
