So we decided to go out and find the very best knives we could for a budget not to exceed $500. Now, if you think spending upwards of $500 on knives, this review probably isn't for you. For most of us, the standard knives we receive in a box set work well enough. But for someone like my wife who cooks all the time, having a few really good knives makes a world of difference. Personally, I don't cook enough to even understand the difference in knives, so I set out to get educated as a first step. Sharpen Kitchen Knives Easily with the Shun Electric Wet Sharpener | Williams-Sonoma
Sharp knives are a kitchen must-have as they make cutting and slicing easy. In this video, Chris Cosentino, Chef and Co-owner of Incanto Restaurant, shows us how to use the Shun Electric Wet Sharpener. For the initial set up, Chris first attaches the wet stone on the Shun knife sharpener. After that, he fixes a reservoir to collect any water or metal residue and puts the lid on the sharpener to complete the set-up. The Shun Electric Wet Sharpener features two degree angles that you can choose to sharpen knives with. Chris says that the 16 degree angle is particularly suited for Asian-style knives and the 22 degree angle is ideal to sharpen European-style knives. After the angle is adjusted well, he pours water into the reservoir of the Shun knife sharpener and turns the machine on. The water spreads evenly within the device and hydrates the stone, giving you a clean, evenly sharpened knife. After about two minutes when the water has been absorbed completely by the stone, you can add some more water. To start sharpening the knives, Chris advises us to begin with the heel of the knife. You need to spread your fingers across the blade to sharpen knives and make sure you sharpen the blade in even strokes. While using the Shun knife sharpener, one must make sure to take only 4-6 seconds per side. To remove any burrs, place the burr brush on a stable surface and rub the knife on both sides.
