Shure SE215 UnBoxing ----------------------------------------- Just Recieved me new Shure SE215 In ear moniors (Headphones / Earphones, whatever you call them from where you are from). Thought id crack out me Cannon 550D and record a nice little unboxing. These headphones are available in all good PA shops, The sticker says its 150$ AUD but they were 130$ AUD. First Impressions: - Really comfortable - Cuts out background noise like nothing i have tried, about the same as a standard foam noise protection ear plug PPE style. - Audio isnt the best but for the price it is brilliant (comparing to my KRK RP5's with FLAC) - Build Quality is really good, i was gentle in vid but there is no need. - The ear mold wire is annoying to start with but is good now and i can see how it will be brilliant later. - Cable length is good, some people hate long cable but I love them because i use desk equipment and need it. I recently purchased a "BNIB" Brand New In Box Shure Beta 58a on eBay, but as soon as I received it and opened the box I knew it was FAKE! Needless to say I was a bit upset. I thought that I would take the time before sending it back to the seller to make this video to show some of the ways to identify a FAKE Shure Beta 58a as they are a very popular counterfeit item. I apologize about the sometimes blurry and wind noise as I filmed outside to get better light and I had to switch back and forth between close viewing and far viewing for clarity. Summary: (update Apr 17, 2012 -- newer authentic Beta 58a mics may also have two letters stamped on the foam under the windscreen. These letters vary from the different mics that I own, but I am not sure what they indicate.) - FAKE Shure Beta 58a mics weigh less and do not feel as substantial if that makes sense - the color of the FAKE is off a bit - the logo of the FAKE is not as crisp and the font is bolder/fatter - the cable plug pin label fonts are smaller on the FAKE and there appears to be no letter label above the flat metal piece above the 1 and 2 pins - wire mesh screen on the FAKE is bright shiny chrome with a looser mesh, weights less - blue band on the FAKE mic will easily roll out of the metal groove it is suppose to sit tightly within, the groove is also bigger than the flimsy blue rubber band on the FAKE. The real blue band is securely fitted within the groove on the wire mesh - The FAKE capsule has no visible yellow <b>...</b>

This is a review of the Shure SRH440 headphones that I received from Shure. These headphones sounds suberb for the price which is $99. I tried the Sennheiser HD 280 and they had absolutely no BASS, the AKG 240 MKII where good but at about $150. Mic Shoot Out!: AKG D112 vs Shure SM57. These two mics are arguably the two biggest "Go To" mics for Recording. The AKG D112 is a Kick Drum Microphone, where as the SM57 is an all-around "Work Horse" Microphone. The D112 is priced at around $250, where the SM57 is priced around $100.Both Mics are going through a Tascam US1641 USB Audio Interface into an iMac 24" and Logic Studio 9. I did not have both mics set up on different inputs... both are going through input one (Switching the Cable and placing the mics after each take). Guitar used was a Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 Brazilian Limited Edition. Which Mic do you think sounds better? I will be doing more Mic Shoot-outs over the next few Months...
