The documentary about the Icelandic strongman, Jón Páll Sigmarsson, will soon be released in the USA. The movie is called "Þetta Er Ekkert Mál" in Iceland but overseas it's called "Larger Than Life". It has already been released in Europe and the company who distributes the film, Sena, says that the film will soon come to the States. This is a documentary made by Hjalti Arnason in collaboration with Goðsögn Films and Sena. It is a masterpiece and a must-have. Jon Pall was such a great man, in so many ways. He touched everyone around him, including me when I was kid. He inspired me then and continues to do so. He was very kind and friendly in person while an absolute berserk in competition; characteristics of a true viking. This is just a preview but the whole movie is 1:45 in length. For everyone who thinks he died from steroids, all feelings aside, lets consider the facts. Jon Pall was a man with a family inherited heart defect, not acquired after he began competing or lifting, but since he was born. And so were numerous other people in his family including his sister. This has been verified over and again by family and people that knew him closely. With his heart already weakened, consuming between 10000 and 20000 calories in a day, straining to exert incredible amounts of energy to lift heavily, and competing in BOTH strongman as well as bodybuilding (part of the time, which meant that he would drop and add around 60 pounds depending on the season), was an incredible burden on his heart. Jón Páll Sigmarsson and Geoff Capes battled for the title World Strongest Man for a few years. They were two good friends off the field but on the field they were animals. Their first battle was in 1983 in Christchurch in New Zealand when Jón Páll joined the competition for the World Strongest Man. Geoff had never won but he had gotten 4th, 3rd and 2nd place. Geoff won in 1983 but Jón Páll finished in 2nd place after a big battle against Capes. Here we can see the competitors in the deadlift. Jon Pall Sigmarsson (April 28, 1960 -- January 16, 1993) was a strongman, a powerlifter , and a bodybuilder from Iceland who won the World's Strongest Man Competition four times (1984, 1986, 1988, 1990). In 1984 Jón won the Icelandic bodybuilding title in the +90 kg. class. His achievements in powerlifting also include Icelandic records in the bench press and the squat, but his best performances were usually in the deadlift event, in which he set the European record many times and multiple world records in strongman competition deadlift variations, such as the rectangular handled wheel and one handed deadlift. In 1986, Jon first wrestled English Author and Guinness World Record Holder Sir Brian Sterling-Vete in a demonstration match for the TV news and print media held at Finnur Karlsson's gymnasium in Reykjavik, Iceland. Halfway through the match Jón and Sterling had plotted to surprise the audience with a supposed angry outburst leading to the two of them demonstrating their skills as martial artists. This very typical 'showmanship' became synonymous with both Jón and Sterling. In 1987, a contest called Pure Strength '87 was held on the grounds of Huntly Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. In this event, Jón Páll, Bill Kazmaier and Geoff Capes competed to define the strongest man of all time, where Jón Páll won 8 out of 10 events. A famous quote, "there is no reason to be alive if you can't do deadlift" was shouted by Jon Pall when he won the deadlift event at this <b>...</b>
