Peter Jennings' Final TV Sign-Off

This clip aired on the final day that the honored ABC World News Tonight anchor Peter Jennings ever appeared again on television (5th April 2005). This is the day Jennings went public that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer; sadly, he passed away that upcoming August, he never again was well enough to anchor the broadcast. Jennings was the best anchor in the history of American television news, and certainly one of the best journalists of all time; he shall be greatly missed.

US National Anthem - Air Force / TV Sign off

Video taken from KRGV-TV Channel 5 (Weslaco, Texas) Oct. 10, 1998. After the station's sign-off, is a great male choir version of the US National Anthem set to video from the US Air Force with the tag "Aim High America." I don't know exactly which choir performed it, but it's a beautiful arrangement.

KCRA Channel 3 Sacramento sign-off 1986

KCRA was on the air 24 hours a day, with a straight feed of the CNN Headline News channel filling out the later hours, except for Sunday nights when they'd sign off with this at 12:30 AM. By 1987 they finally put in Headline News Sunday nights as well and were full 24-hours. This includes one of two versions I've seen of the "High Flight" poem with Air Force footage, followed by "Bluebird Of Happiness" which might have looked a lot nicer if the film they used wasn't so grainy and dirty. The tape this was recorded on ran out right at the end of the sign-off, so you don't get to see what happened afterwards- most of the time the screen would go white, with the station logo at the bottom and the signal would stay on with silence til sign-on time. Since 2000 KCRA has stuck its logo on the screen during all non-NBC programming, so essentially they are just a big test pattern now, at least til June '09 when the analog station finally goes off the air. This is recorded from a stereo broadcast; it was common at the time for stations to run all mono material through a fake stereo processor, often with annoying results. **UPDATE! It seems that YouTube is now playing this clip in STEREO, at least if you have your preferences set to default to High Quality! If you have the ability to play just the left and the right channels separately, switch back and forth and try to hear how the station's "stereo processor" worked! National Anthem TV Sign-off Slowed Reveals Subliminal Messaging

EDIT: Please read everything below for best understanding of what we are likely looking at here. ATTENTION DEBUNKERS: i.imgur.com original here: www.youtube.com I was watching the original and was like, wait, does that say something else? Slowing it down confirms it. Indeed, it does say something else. NOTE: This scares some people. So much that they try to discredit what they're seeing by claiming that this is an altered version of an original, which they claim to be found here: www.fuzzymemories.tv The problem with this knee-jerk, fear-based and false accusation is illustrated here: i.imgur.com Some, showing an embarrassingly thick layer of ignorance claim hoax by pointing to the fact that there's a question mark (?) at the end; "home of the brave?". I hate to break it to you guys, but there is a question mark there in the song. Problem is, some people these days don't care enough to pay any real attention. The lyric in question: The last line of the first paragraph... www.scoutsongs.com i.imgur.com upload.wikimedia.org The Star Spangled Banner was written by a man who was taken prisoner by the British and brought onto a ship. From this ship out in the water, he witnessed a battle. He was overcome with great emotion and it was too dark to tell if his side was winning, he just saw all these explosions "bombs bursting in air", and as daylight crept upon the battlescene the big question on his mind was "Is our flag still standing above the fort?" WNCT-TV 9, Greenville NC Sign-Off /On from 4 April 1998

Sign-off of eastern North Carolina's CBS affiliate recorded off the cable while vacationing at Topsail Island NC. The clip commences with a portion of the encore of the Eyewitness News 11:00 newscast featuring a story about the Pepsi-Cola Centennial celebration at New Bern, NC, the birthplace of Pepsi, followed by brief sports and weather bits at the end of the newscast. Normally, WNCT would sign off after the end of the newscast, but eastern North Carolina was being rocked by severe thunderstorms. WNCT decided to put on a movie with occasional breaks for weather information (I do not remember the name of the movie). Around 4:00 AM, when the movie ended, WNCT finally signed off. A minute or so of color bars precedes the sign-on announcement, which aired at 7:00 AM.
