Amazing Child Singers - video four
This is the fourth of several videos I'm making with clips, sounds and pictures of some of my favourite young singers. The clips in this one are: 1. Danielle White - Colours of The Wind (age 11). Danielle sang this when she was a finalist on American Juniors. She sang it beautifully with such feeling and calmness it makes me smile. No wonder she made it into the final group. 2. Jackson 5 - Who's Loving You (Michael age 11). Wow. I'm telling you: wow, wow, wow. It's Michael Jackson. Need I say more? This is the most talented child star there's ever been and ever will be. They sang this at the Ed Sullivan Show. 3. Billy Gilman - Oklahoma (age 12). Billy was 12 years old when he sang this song and made this music video. His voice has such pureness and it's so beautiful. I love him singing this song, it makes me both cry and smile because he's got such a nice voice and the song is beautiful. 4. Jamia Simone Nash - A Tisket A Tasket (age 7). She was only 7 years old when she was on the Nickelodeon show "Romeo!" and sang this, but wow, can that little girl sing! She's really impressive, both as a singer and an actress. 5. Declan Galbraith - I'll Be There & Angels (age 10). "I'll Be There" is from rehearsal and "Angels" is from the performance when he was performing at the huge 2002 Young Voices concert. I don't know what else to say except: Aahh! Jeanne Riley had cut a demo record for one of her songwriter friends, Royce Clark called "The Old Town Drunk." It was a sarcastic ballad of the old drunk that everyone in town made fun of until one day when they found his hat floating in the river and his shoes next to the river bank. The whole town got concerned and started dragging the river looking for his body. All the while the old town drunk was on the hillside, overlooking the entire scene, laughing. He finally came down and told the folks he was glad he was so well thought of. When the song was played for producer Shelby Singleton of Plantation records. He wanted to know, "who's that girl doing the singing?" Shelby had been presented a song from a struggling songwriter named Tom Hall called "Harper Valley PTA" but he was not sold on the song due to the arrangement and the voice of the singer on the demo. It was a definite copy of the song "Ode to Billy Joe" which was a hit a year prior. The voice of the singer was just too smooth, he thought. This song need punch and sarcasm. But once he heard Jeannie's rendition of "The Old Town Drunk," it clicked. And he said, get me that girl and a song I've got called "Harper Valley PTA" and I will cut you a million seller. On friday, July 26, 1968 Jeannie had been working for Passkey Music on Music Row as a receptionist. She closed the door to the office at 5 o'clock and walked next door to Columbia Studio. This is the second of several videos I'm making with clips, sounds and pictures of some of my favourite young singers. The clips in this one are: 1. AJ Melendez - Still (age 12). One of his great performances on American Juniors and I must say his most powerful one. No one knew he had such power in his voice until this performance! It still confuses me that he didn't make it into the final group. 2. Lucy Hale - Make it Easy on Yourself (age 13). She - like AJ - was one of the finalists on American Juniors and she did make it into the group. This performance sure shows why. 3. Morgan Burke - Somewhere Over The Rainbow (age 10). His first huge performance when he was only 10 years old. He performed at Showtime at The Apollo and the crowd loved him. And with that voice and cute looks, who wouldn't? 4. Katelyn Tarver - Ain't No Mountain High Enough (age 13). She did not have the best voice of the ten American Juniors finalists, but this performance was really great and it truly showed that she still does have a really good voice. 5. Danielle Freid - I Must Believe (age 9). Danielle was the lead in a musical and her vocals are really impressive. She was only 9 years old, but both her singing and her acting was fantastic! 6. AJ Melendez - The Night Has A Thousand Eyes (age 12). Another terrific American Juniors performance. I love this one.
