The film follows a girl named Sintel who is searching for a baby dragon she calls Scales. A flashback reveals that Sintel found Scales with its wing injured and helped care for it, forming a close bond with it. By the time its wing recovered and it was able to fly, Scales was caught by an adult dragon. Sintel has since embarked on a quest to rescue Scales, fending off beasts and warriors along the way. She eventually comes across a cave housing an adult and baby dragon, the latter of which she believes to be Scales. I made this version in reaction to "I Move On (Sintel's Song)" - Official Music Video, where I criticised mainly the cut. I was wondering if I'm able to make a version which fits better to the music and delivers somehow more impression. I'm still not completely happy with certain parts, but the idea is basically there. I used Blender 2.49.2 (custom build) for video editing, because Blender 2.54.0 (custom build from current SVN) was incredibly slow on my laptop. :( Another thing is, that developers for some reason removed "Frame Blending" option of "Speed Control" from Blender 2.5x, which I used heavily. :((( The song is published with kind permission from Jan Morgenstern (JanMorgenstern42).

First version of the final sintel face rig for poduction use. The shape keys were quickly blocked in by Angela. Final shape keys are still yet to come. There are some artifacts around the eyes. These are due to some bugs in the skinning. They will be fixed. :-)

With initial funding provided by 1000s of donations via the internet community, it has again proven to be a viable development model for both open 3D technology as for independent animation film. This 15 minute film has been realized in the studio of the Amsterdam Blender Institute, by an international team of artists and developers. In addition to that, several crucial technical and creative targets have been realized online, by developers and artists and teams all over the world. "Sintel" commenced in May 2009, with producer Ton Roosendaal establishing a core team consisting of Colin Levy (director), David Revoy (concept art), Martin Lodewijk (story) and Jan Morgenstern (composer). In August script writer Esther Wouda was approached as a consultant, which resulted in her taking the responsibility for the entire screenplay. Esther then worked in close cooperation with Colin, David and Ton to deliver the final script early November. Meanwhile, Colin and David realized the first storyboards.
