Siri is Apple's next step into the future, it's basically your Voice Command feature on crack. That is, if crack made you smart and could type for you(maybe it can 0.0). Either way this feature is pretty badass and will run your life for you. You can hold down your home button as you would with Voice Commands, except now it can do much more then pick an artist. After activating Siri, your phone will ask you "What can I help you with?" You can respond with a numerous amount of questions. Things like "Wake me up at 6PM" will set an alarm for you to wake you up. "How do I get to the Golden Gate Bridge?" will pop up directions from your current location. Even things like "Schedule a meeting Friday at 12PM" will create an event in your calendar. As mentioned before, there are numerous amounts of possibilities. Other then controlling your device, Siri can also type for you. Whatever you dictate to your iPhone 4S after activating, Siri will be able to understand what you are saying and type it out in a text message, application, email, and anything else. Siri is smart, over time the speech-to-text feature will start getting used to your voice, I smell Tamagotchi in the wild. That means if your unique voice will be detected by the software and memorized. This will create an easier experience for the user and less mistakes by Siri. Siri is a personal assistant that's geared towards helping the users experience with your iPhone a more productive one. The Nokia Lumia 710 has system wide Voice Recognition that is powered by Bing Voice. The system isn't flawless as it sometimes does not recognize my voice or start the recognition when initiated. Regardless, it is a great VR system and as always, there is room for improvement.

This latest revision of Apple's mobile operating system helps to clean some of the dust off of what was starting to feel a bit dated without actually changing any fundamentals. iOS 5 introduces a slew of improvements and enhancements, some minor and some rather more major. We've already posted a particularly comprehensive iOS 5 review, so we won't blather on about it any longer here except to say it's a very solid update that will make your smartphone an even more seamless, integral part of your life. The one thing we will blather on about quite a bit more here is Siri, your own digital helper. Siri is an evolution of the Siri Virtual Assistant, a spin-off of a DARPA project called CALO. Apple bought the company in early 2010 and now that functionality is baked right into the OS. Sort of. Siri can only be found on the iPhone 4S, a curious and seemingly arbitrary shunning of the other iOS devices. We've heard that's due to the processor demands required for voice recognition, but since you need an active data connection to use Siri we have to imagine that the heavy lifting for voice recognition is happening somewhere inside Apple's massive data center, which would seemingly allow lower-spec devices to do the same. And, since the iPad 2 is running the A5 at an even higher clock speed, there's just no good reason we can think of for putting Siri exclusively on the 4S. Let the poor girl <b>...</b>

Gizmodo reports that AT&T and Apple are replacing the 3G logo with a 4G logo on the iPhone 4S's status bar. AT&T say that they are "working together on this" with Apple since the iPhone 4S is capable of HSPA+ and 14.4MBps. Now this is a huge upgrade from the 7.2MBps the iPhone 4 can handel, no wonder AT&T want to show it's power. Although the 4S is capable of these speeds does not mean it will get them everywhere or even frequently. AT&T is in the process of rolling out their LTE netwrok for next year and this just seems like they are trying to throw in a segue. The NEW iPhone was revealed today by Apple at the Let's Talk iPhone event in Cupertino, California. It is not the iPhone 5, but an upgraded iPhone 4. The newest iPhone will be called "iPhone 4S". The iPhone 4S shares the same design as the iPhone 4 but with updated specs. It has the iPad 2's dual-core A5 CPU, runs on faster HSPA+ networks, can download as fast as 14.4Mbps, it has an 8 megapixel camera, a CMOS backside illuminated sensor (that Apple says will get you 73% more light than the iPhone 4 sensor), they also remodeled the lens system with five lens elements that will get you an f2.4, it will shot video at 1080p video with real-time image stabilization and temporal noise reduction, it will have a better battery life, a new antenna design, will be available in 16GB ($199), 32GB ($299) and 64GB ($399) models, both: black and white, you can pre-order it on October 7, it will be available on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint on October 14. But beyond all those specs what probably is the best thing to come out of the Apple event is the new smart assistant application: Siri. netpro2k.com Have been hacking around with the Siri Proxy created by plamoni github.com today. Made some pretty cool progress. First, I taught Siri how to tweet. The commands are actually interpreted by Apple's servers, and then intercepted by a proxy I have running locally. I am then simply using Twitter gem to make the post. Confirm and cancel work both by voice and by clicking the onscreen buttons. You may notice it appears the results are coming from WolframAlpha. I just used this response format as it allows you to return arbitrary text and images, as well as a confirmation. There is no interaction with wolfram's servers. This is much more elegant than the sms message workaround for posting to twitter that has been shown before (but requires a lot more setup)
