Sita is a goddess separated from her beloved Lord and husband Rama. Nina Paley is an animator whose husband moves to India, then dumps her by email. Three hilarious shadow puppets narrate both ancient tragedy and modern comedy in this beautifully animated interpretation of the Ramayana. Set to the 1920's jazz vocals of torch singer Annette Hanshaw, Sita Sings the Blues earns its tagline as "the Greatest Break-Up Story Ever Told." It is written, directed, produced and animated by American artist Nina Paley. "Sita Sings the Blues" was released in 2008 only after long negotiations with the copyright holders of the 80-year-old songs recorded by Annette Hanshaw. Following the experience of almost having her film blocked from distribution, Nina Paley released it freely under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, and now devotes a significant portion of her time to free culture activism. She is Artist in Residence at the non-profit QuestionCopyright.org. Sita Vermeulen was a member of the band "K-otic", which was created by the Dutch TV-program "Starmaker". In December 2001 she left the band to start a solo career. Next mornig, ShivDhanush is worshipped before the swayamvar & Vishwamitra asks Ram Laxman to go to the swayamvar & claims that the one who is SHIV himself will only be able to lift the ShivDhanush. As Ram, Sita and Laxman are passing through Jungle they are surprised to see no human being there. Ram tells them that it is because of Rakshas and it is his duty to safeguard humans. Khar tells Dushan that it is their duty to destroy rishis so go & finish Augustya Muni. But Rakshas Trisira and his army could do no harm to Rishi Augustya. Sita says to Ram that he must be tired, so he should rest for a while. In fact Sita wants to wash his feet and wipe them with her hair. Urmila misses Laxman before sleeping. Urmila imagines that Laxman has come back. As she opens her eyes; she sees kaushalya standing there, an emotional scene between them. Kaushalaya says she is surprised how Urmila can smile to hide her pain. Urmila tells her that while leaving for forest, she promised Laxman that she will always smile so that he stays happily. Kaushalaya says whenever she sees Urmila, she feels positive about Ram, Laxman & Sita coming back soon Kaushalaya blesses Urmila so that she gets more power to wait for Laxman. Suparnkha comes angry with Sita for insulting her mother Sita replies that she has been brought up in a culture where she is been taught to respect elders She was never disrespectful towards her in fact her mother had been disrespectful towards humankind by giving birth to a daughter like her. Jambvant sends his messenger to inform Ram that they have reached the sea shore and according to Swayamprabha Sita has been captive on the other side. Ram is restless and eagerly wants to reach at the sea shore. Hanuman and others meet Sampaati, Jatayus brother They express their gratitude towards Jatayu for sacrificing his life while saving Sita. Sampaati with his far sighted vulture eyes tells them Sita is currently in Ashok Vatika. He feels very helpless for not being able to help them because of his old age. Kaikasi informs Mandodari that Ravan has refused to send Sita back. Ram does tankaar of his bow to challenge Ravan and assure Sita that the moment Hanuman is back he will attack Ravan. Sumanth returns Ayodhya without Ram, Sita & Laxman. Urmilla comes running towards Sumanth expecting to meet Laxman, but to her dismay, Sumanth returns alone. Sumanth goes to Dasrath to tell him that he could not get them back. Dasrath is in a really bad state, on seeing Sumanth, he becomes happy expecting that Ram would have returned. Sumanth tells him that now Ram would return after 14 years only & has sent a message for Dasrath that he would be fine, he should not worry about him. Dasrath cries. Sita, alongwith Ram & Laxman, prays to God as they are going to buit a kutiya for themselves. Laxman alongwith other adivasis, builts a kutiya for them to stay. Sita does Arti & enters the kutiya. Ram, Sita & Laxman do a havan with Rishis for their kutiya & a new beginning. At nite, Sita gets afraid hearing the animals roar. Laxman is guarding them & thinks all negative about Bharat. Then Ram tells him not to doubt on Bharat as he is their brother.
