America's war against social media

Internet freedom has been tested by governments around the world. Now the US intends to concentrate its efforts in cracking down on social media. Recently, law enforcement shutdown cell phone service in a protest in San Francisco, and now in New York City the police department has formed a new unit to track down people who brag about or plan crimes on social media sites. Is the US declaring war on people's free speech online? Karen DeCoster, freelance writer and blogger, tells us how this is bad for Americans. Follow Lauren on Twitter: twitter.com

Obama's Executive Order: A preparation for war with Iran?

Late last week President Obama signed The National Defense Resources Preparedness Executive Order. This order gives him the authority to take hold of all of the US assets that are necessary to secure peace in times of war, essentially declaring martial-law in America. Many believe that this step was taken to prepare for a war with Iran. Reporters have questioned the Obama administration on if the recent move was in preparation for war with Iran, but the question was laughed off. Charlie McGrath, founder of WideAwakeNews.com, joins us to discuss if this new Executive Order is a laughing matter. Like us and/or follow us: twitter.com www.facebook.com

Sacrifice Upon The Altar of War

On Memorial Day, the presumptive Republican nominee said the world is a dangerous place and the United States must remain the most formidable military in the world. The next Secretary of State? "The world is not safe," Romney told veterans in San Diego. He said "social needs" must be sacrificed on the altar of war and never ending military spending. It is the duty of Americans "to commit to preserve America as the strongest military in the world, second to none, with no comparable power anywhere in the world." Flanked by senator John McCain, Romney said Iran, Pakistan, China and Russia threaten the hegemony of empire. Romney "believes in American exceptionalism," McCain said. "He believes the 21st Century will also be an American century." Romney has the support of the neocons and their forever war ideology and pro-Israel bias will steer his administration if he beats Obama in November. In January he said former UN ambassador John Bolton's "wisdom, clarity, and courage are qualities that should typify our foreign policy. I look forward to consulting with him as we campaign to restore America's standing abroad and ensure that this century is an American Century." Romney said he "will restore our military, repair relations with our closest allies, and ensure that no adversary -- including Iran -- ever questions American resolve." www.infowars.com by Kurt Nimmo www.infowars.com www.prisonplanet.tv twitter.com www.facebook.com [Check out Alex's New Social Network-'Planet ...

BILL MOYERS JOURNAL | Buying the War | Excerpt | PBS

Buy the DVD: www.shoppbs.org Bill Moyers Journal: Buying the War Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 9 PM on PBS (check local listings) How the administration marketed the war to the American people has been well covered, but critical questions remain: How and why did the press buy it, and what does it say about the role of journalists in helping the public sort out fact from propaganda? In this clip from the premiere of Bill Moyers Journal on PBS, Bob Simon of 60 Minutes, who was based in the Middle East, talks about the reporting he was seeing and reading out of the beltway, and John Walcott and Warren Strobel of Knight Ridder newspapers (now The McClatchy Company), discuss their work burrowing deep into the intelligence agencies to determine whether there was any evidence for the Bush Administration's case for war. On Wednesday, April 25 at 9 PM on PBS (check local listings), watch "Buying the War," a 90-minute documentary that explores the role of the press in the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq, which includes interviews with Dan Rather, formerly of CBS; Tim Russert of Meet the Press; and Walter Isaacson, former president of CNN. Two days later on April 27, the Bill Moyers Journal airs its regular timeslot on Fridays at 9 PM with interviews and news analysis of underreported stories across an array of beats, including: the environment, media, politics, the economy, arts and culture, and social issues.

silent weapons for a quiet war

A few notes taken from a document called silent weapons for a quiet war. Media: Keep the adult public attention diverted away from the real social issues, and captivated by matters of no real importance. Schools: Keep the young public ignorant of real mathematics, real economics, real law, and real history. Entertainment: Keep the public entertainment below a sixth grade level. Work: Keep the public busy, busy, busy, with no time to think; back on the farm with the other animals." "It shoots situations, instead of bullets; propelled by data processing, instead of grains of gunpowder; from a computer, instead of a gun; operated by a computer programmer, instead of a marksman; under the orders of a banking magnate, instead of a military general. It makes no obvious noises, causes no obvious physical injuries, and does not obviously interfere with anyone's daily social life.
