Soil Pride, lyrics

When you scream aloud (Heads down, Heads down) That's when I plan to (Rise up, Rise up) When you scream aloud (We're doomed, We're doomed) That's when I plan to prove myself to you I've never gotten the simple thrill of a solo day I've never seen the point in you killing you I've always backed my words with what I do I'll always bite my tongue to comfort you I'll be my superhero number one I'll save me from myself I, I rise, Above the sun in the sky Above that look in your eyes My Pride! Sister you know me (Sister you know me) Mother you made me Lover what do you offer me Father teach me Brother protect Lover what do you have for me I'll be my superhero number one I'll save me from myself I'll be your superhero number one I'll save you, I'll save I, I rise, Above the sun in the sky Above that look in your eyes My Pride! I'll save you (3x) Your eyes deny A life that dulls your pride Your eyes they Hide through me you'll heal with time When you scream aloud (Heads down, Heads down) That's when I plan to (Rise up, Rise up) When you scream aloud (We're doomed, We're doomed) That's when I plan to prove myself to you I'll be my superhero number one I'll save me from myself I'll be your superhero number one I'll save you, I'll save you I, I rise, Above the sun in the sky Above that look in your eyes My Pride! Soil Types

Not all dirt is the same. Soil types play an important part in planning your yard watering. Here's a tip on how to quickly determine the type of soil you have and plan your watering. A common assumption is that the secret to having a green and healthy yard is water, water and more water. Nature is struggling to meet our ever-increasing demands for water and we are facing drought conditions with water rationing in some parts of the country. Simply put -- there is a limit to how much water we can consume without ever-increasing consequences. With summer here and the height of the watering season upon us, it is time to make sure all of us are doing our part to conserve water and at the same time keep the water bill down. Michael Glassman is an award winning landscape designer and in this weekly podcast series offers tips on how to save water and still have a great yard. Michael has twenty years of experience in the field and has been featured in such publications as Sunset Magazine, Fine Gardening, Better Homes and Gardens, and Landscape Architecture. He is designer and co-host of the Discovery Home Channel program Garden Police.

SOIL not DIRT - Dr Elaine Ingham talks Soil Microbiology

Dr. Elaine Ingham talks about soil fertility and the role of soil microbial life. Dr. Ingham is a world-renowned soil biologist who pioneered many of the currently used biological soil amendment techniques and pioneered the testing of soil microbial life as an indicator of soil and plant health. Dr. Ingham is the Chief Scientist at the Rodale Institute. She is the founder of the Sustainable Studies Institute and the Soil Foodweb Inc. soil testing labs. Dr. Ingham is the key author of the US Dept. of Agriculture's Soil Biology Primer. She has been the mentor of numerous soil scientists and practitioners of ecologically balanced landscape design, and has helped farmers all over the world to grow more resilient crops by understanding and improving their soil life.

Vegetable Garden Soil Preparation

Vegetable Garden Soil Preparation When garden author Doug Green at www.beginner-gardening.com starts the serious work of vegetable garden soil preparation, he does it in a way that makes it both as easy to do and as efficient as possible. There are two schools of thought on digging and working in the garden. The first is that you never dig the garden - but instead lay down a constant mulch and go from there. This might work in areas of great soil in parts of the Northeast but it isn't going to go very far in my shallow rocky soil where every vegetable is on its own. It also isn't going to work too well in areas of high humidity and moisture where mulch can be a serious haven for slugs and other critters. So while it may not be fashionable in some circles, digging the garden soil in preparation for planting flowers or vegetables is a perfectly acceptable way to get some exercise and make a garden grow. In my case, I dig the vegetable garden, I remove as many rocks as I can and then mulch. The mulch is usually good for a few years and then I repeat the process. Dig and remove the rocks, add some peat moss and compost and then re-apply a layer of straw or other fast-decomposing mulch. Over a few cycles the organic soil becomes rich and the vegetables grow better and better every year. Unfortunately, the rocks keep getting tossed up by frost so this will never go away - I dig 'em out or they'll slowly take over my garden. Soil Stories - The Whole Story

In "Soil Stories", our protagonist, Francine, embarks on a journey of discovery that begins with her realization that soil is alive and that without soil, life as we know would not exist. In her journey of discovery she meets with soil scientists who help her "see" beneath the surface of the soil and help her understand how diverse yet ordered soil bodies are in the landscape and how much work has been done in soil survey. In the second half of the story, Francine meets with characters that help her take an up close and personal look at some physical and biological attributes of soils without which they would not function. In the final part of the video, a character from history shares an epiphany about soils with Francine and translates this to modern terms. "Soil Stories" was born out of a collaborative effort between ESRI-SC and SC NRCS. We (Buz Kloot and Pam Thomas) wanted to get all the information about soils across, but in a way that was engaging. While facts came easy, it's not always easy to be engaging on this subject. Until that is, when I (Buz Kloot) was at a ScienceFilm workshop with Jeff Morales and Colin Bates where I began to see that the story trumps all when making videos. Colin's advice to me one morning was "why don't you make a movie about people who have a relationship with the soil?" - well, the rest is history. Credit goes to so many and I have tried to acknowledge all at the end of the video, but I fear I may still have left some out. To those I <b>...</b>
