Spain vs Chile Fight - "Friendly" Match - 2/9/2011

So it turns out that when the Real Madrid and Barcelona boys are on the same team instead of going against each other in a never-ending series of death matches, they actually join forces and fight against their common enemy instead of each other. After Spain fell behind 2-0 in the first 20 minutes of their friendly against Chile on friday, they mounted a comeback capped by two goals from the man who is suddenly the greatest goal scorer of our generation, Cesc Fabregas, to win 3-2. Just before the final whistle blew, Chile's Arturo Vidal got a little rough with Andres Iniesta, who decided to go forehead to chin with him. Before Vidal could step on him, though, Iniesta's Spain teammate and club rival Alvaro Arbeloa ran in and weakly hit Vidal in the chest. This kicked off a bench-clearing scuffle that Sergio Busquets was desperate to be a part of. Not only did he get right in the middle of it, but he even managed to stay on his feet as three Chile players held him back and one shoved him square in the chest. And so this group of men bitterly divided by their paid allegiances came together to stand and fight as one, proving that there is still hope. And that they can even find something to fight about in a stupid international friendly.

Costa Rica 2 -2 Spain All goals and full highlights Brenes Campbell Silva Villa

Costa Rica 2 -2 Spain All goals and full highlights SAN JOSE — David Villa's goal in injury time gave World and European champions Spain a 2-2 draw at lowly Costa Rica in a friendly international football match. Spain, hoping to bounce back after a 1-0 friendly defeat to England on Saturday, were listless in their attack in the first half of the contest, played at a rainy Estadio Nacional. Their defence lacked sharpness, as they fell 2-0 down by halftime before rallying after the break. Randal Brenes scored in the 30th minute for Costa Rica and Arsenal striker Joel Campbell added another for the hosts in the 41st. Villa scored in the 83rd before grabbing the equaliser at the finish. Goalkeeper Iker Casillas made his 127th appearance for Spain, becoming the country's most-capped player. But his milestone was marred by an uncharacteristic mistake when he failed to control the ball in the area, allowing Brenes to gain possession and fire into an empty net. Campbell made it 2-0 with a powerful shot past Casillas. Spain, who have swept through their Euro qualifying campaign, have apparently found it harder to get the competitive juices flowing for friendlies. Their defeat at Wembley was their fourth in a friendly since they won the World Cup, and they were clearly keen to avoid a repeat as they stepped things up in the second half after a spate of substitutions. After the break they gradually seized control, Barcelona striker Villa threatening repeatedly before finally coming ...

Spain quake: Bell tower crashes down on live TV, close shave for reporter

Two earthquakes struck southeast Spain in quick succession on Wednesday, killing at least 10 people, injuring dozens and causing major damage to buildings. The epicentre of the quakes - with magnitudes of 4.4 and 5.2 - was close to the town of Lorca in the Murcia region of south eastern Spain. Large chunks of stone and brick fell from the facade of a church in Lorca as a reporter for Spanish state TV was broadcasting live from the scene. A large church bell was also among the rubble, which missed striking the reporter, who appeared to be about 30 feet (9 meters) away when it fell. The broadcaster reported that schoolchildren usually gather at that spot around that time, and if it had happened 10 minutes later, a "tragedy" could have occurred.
