In the yogic tradition, the seven main subtle energy centers of the body are called chakras. 'Chakra' means 'wheel' or 'circle' in Hindi. They are spinning vortexes of energy that exist in our subtle energy body, and it is through them that the universal life force (prana) flows into our bodies and our consciousness. These monotype (one of a kind) prints represent my personal interpretation of the chakra system. I began studying chakras in October 2008, and was stirred by their mystery, and how the philosophy associated with them inspired me at such a deep level. I created 12 prints based on each of the chakras, beginning with number one up to number seven. Chakras start at the base of the spine, and continue upward throughout our bodies to a little bit above the crown of the head: 1.Muladhara, blood red, grounding and survival, 'I exist' 2.Swadistana, orange, emotions and sexuality, 'I feel' 3.Manipura, yellow, power and will and courage, 'I control' 4.Anahata, green, compassion and relationship, 'I love' 5.Visuddha, blue, communication and expression, 'I create' 6.Ajna, purple, 'third eye' and intuition, 'I am the Witness' 7.Sarasrara, invisible white light, consciousness and spirit, 'I am that I am' While these are my own personal artistic renderings, the energy centers they represent are integral to every human body.
