That will be fun. www.visionresearch.com - Click for high speed video awesomeness Talk is cheap, and several before/after experiments have been performed, but they all have one flaw. It's extremely difficult to visualize what is going on with the flow-fields of the weapon blasts. We planned and assembled several different assets including a high speed camera over a few months and then ran a test designed specifically to allow the viewer to observe the gas dynamics in great detail! Needless to say, this was a blast. Well, two blasts if you want to be technical about it (and we usually do). I performed an experiment to see what the differences were between semi-automatic pistols and revolvers. The advantage of shooting under water is that you can see the boundary of the gas flow fields almost perfectly. 12 Year Old Prodigy Jay Greenberg, Compared To Mozart There is a composer studying at New York's renowned Juilliard School who some say is the greatest talent to come along in 200 years. He's written five full-length symphonies, and he's only 12 years old. His name is Jay Greenberg, although he likes the nickname "Bluejay" because, he says, blue jays are small and make a lot of noise. Greenberg says music just fills his head and he has to write it down to get it out. What's going on in Bluejay's head? Correspondent Scott Pelley spoke with him. Jay wrote a piece, "The Storm," in just a few hours. It was commissioned by the New Haven Symphony in Connecticut. When the last note sailed into the night, Jay navigated an unfamiliar stage, and then took a bow. "We are talking about a prodigy of the level of the greatest prodigies in history when it comes to composition," says Sam Zyman, a composer. "I am talking about the likes of Mozart, and Mendelssohn, and Saint-Sans." Zyman teaches music theory to Jay at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he's been teaching for 18 years. "This is an absolute fact. This is objective. This is not a subjective opinion," says Zyman. "Jay could be sitting here, and he could be composing right now. He could finish a piano sonata before our eyes in probably 25 minutes. And it would be a great piece." How is it possible? It was discovered by Rob Bryanton, who will answer your questions individually if you contact him on his channel. Alot of you will wonder why I don't subscribe to Einstein and most String Theorist's theory of 11 dimensions, and it is because Rob makes more sense. Physicists claimed there were 11 dimensions because they said there were 10 spacial dimensions, plus one of time. What they didn't realize, (and I have no idea how Einstein missed this) was that space and time are of the same fabric. Meaning, time is a direction just as much as length is a direction. So what they had considered as the 4th spacial dimension, was actually time all along, and they did not need to add the "plus one of time", because it was already accounted for by the fourth spacial dimension. Here's the analogy I came up with to help myself picture it: Just like the "flatlanders" would only be able to see 2D cross sections of a 3D object passing through their 2D reality... so do we experience time. We are living on a 3D plain, that is moving through the fourth dimension at the speed of light, and what we see are 3D cross sections of this movement. The only way to stand still, is to move at the speed of light, which would in essence stop time. We have built an imaging solution that allows us to visualize propagation of light at an effective rate of one trillion frames per second. Direct recording of light at such a frame rate with sufficient brightness is nearly impossible. We use an indirect 'stroboscopic' method that combines millions of repeated measurements by careful scanning in time and viewpoints. The device has been developed by the MIT Media Lab's Camera Culture group in collaboration with Bawendi Lab in the Department of Chemistry at MIT. A laser pulse that lasts less than one trillionth of a second is used as a flash and the light returning from the scene is collected by a camera at a rate equivalent to roughly 1 trillion frames per second. However, due to very short exposure times (roughly one trillionth of a second) and a narrow field of view of the camera, the video is captured over several minutes by repeated and periodic sampling. Observers under dark skies, far from the bright city lights, can marvel at the splendor of the Milky Way, arching in an imposing band across the sky. Zooming in towards the center of our galaxy, about 25000 light years away, you can see that it is composed of myriads of stars. This is a pretty impressive sight, but much is hidden from view by interstellar dust, and astronomers need to look using a different wavelength, the infrared, that can penetrate the dust clouds. With large telescopes, astronomers can then see in detail the swarm of stars circling the supermassive black hole, in the same way that the Earth orbits the Sun. The Galactic Center harbors the closest supermassive black hole known, and the one that is also the largest in terms of its angular diameter on the sky, making it the best choice for a detailed study of black holes. This black hole's mass is a hefty four million times that of the Sun, earning it the title of supermassive black hole. Although it is huge, this black hole is currently supplied with little material and is not shining brightly. But this is about to change.
