Dana Hill's 2010 graduation When I first heard about this graduation speech I immediately jotted down what I was getting ready to preach And prepared in my seat a spoken word composition But not without administration permission To perform this far outside of tradition About our future endeavors and ambitions Whether you become a firefighter or an electrician Whether you become a teacher or a physician Whether you become an activist or a politician Whether you become mother or a jazz musician All you need is a little ambition To refuse to let any opposition Prevent your dreams from coming to fruition I'll start this next part off with a sublime end rhyme I wrote in my spare time Thinking back to that early high school phase Freshman year, it was never the source of any malaise Back to the girl I secretly liked, who seemed to give off beams of sunlight I would never dare talk to her, I could only simply gaze Not to sound too creepy, but I'm going off course anyway so to this let me rephrase I remember when mom dropped me off on that first day, And you know what she said to me? The same, exact, thing, she said every day. "Now go in there and pack some knowledge In that noggin, and go prepare yourself for college" "Yes, mom" as I constantly said, Hopped out only to be greeted by who's that yelling? Ohh, it's Big Ned! I walked with my two friends through the front Only to be absorbed by that 3000 strong human current It seemed everyone was an upper class giant We had no ...

"I Am" refers to the leaders of today who recognize the struggles of past leaders and victims whose shoulders we stand on. The muffled voices in the front portion are a metaphor to the oppressed voices of the past and present. This video was played at the American Multicultural Student Leadership Conference at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to set the tone for the event. We got Eric Mata to write a spoken word piece and a handful of student leaders on campus to bring it to life. Thanks to Zirafa for the music (www.midnightparking.com) Thanks to all the photographers who have captured these flashing moments. Although subliminal... they still burn into our memories. I am I am nothing less than everyone whose shoulders have carried the burden of my future and nothing more than a possibility yet it is possible that I am potential waiting to be birthed into revolution and I am restless inside this womb waiting to be born again into everyone whose blood flows through my existence I am more than what stands before you more than brown skin, dark hair and college degree more than olive complexion and almond eyes I am more than son, daughter, brother, sister, friend I am blood sweat tears I am emmit till I am tupac amaru I am che Guevara I am whiplash scars on broken backs I am the shackles on the wrists of tortured souls I am Auschwitz victim and survivor I am broke neck ghosts searching for justice I am ins target practice wading in rio grande dreams I am underground dweller ...

*Note that this track is property of UMG. We held hands on the last night on earth. Our mouths filled with dust. We kissed in the fields and under trees, screaming like dogs, bleeding dark into the leaves. It was empty on the edge of the town, but we knew everyone floated along the bottom of the river. So we walked through the waste where the road curved into the sea and the shattered seasons lay, and the bitter smell of burning was on you like a disease. In our cancer of passion, you said, "Death is a midnight runner." The sky had come crashing down like the news of an intimate suicide. We picked up the shards and formed them into shapes of stars that wore like an antique wedding dress. The echoes of the past broke the hearts of the unborn, as the Ferris wheel silently slowed to a stop. A few insects skittered away in hopes of a better pastime. I kissed you at the apex of the maelstrom and asked if you would accompany me in a quick fall; but you made me realize that my ticket wasn't good for two. I rode alone. You said, "The cinders are falling like snow." There is poetry in despair, and we sang with unrivaled beauty, bitter elegies of savagery and eloquence, of blue and grey. Strange, we ran down desperate streets and carved our names in the flesh of the city. The sun has stagnated somewhere beyond the rim of the horizon, and darkness is a mystery of curves and lines. Still, we lay under the emptiness and drifted slowly outward; and somewhere in the wilderness we found ...

What if one year winter did not come ThoseGirlsAreWild.com What if one year winter did not come If the grass stayed green, and at 6 the sky remained young What if the birds could stay home the butterflies could keep close The patios would remain open and so would our toes Instead of dusting snow we'd ride on dusty trails and by february we'd all have forgotten that winter had even failed. We'd race around the water and jump in wet with sweat. By March words we once knew, we would conveniently forget Like plowing, shovel, blizzard, parka, black ice, snow Frost bite, wind chill, long johns, pneumonia and 50 below What if, one year, winter did not come Instead of coming on strong like fire then fading with the sun Instead of going from ringing off my phone to waiting for your call to come You'd tell me you need me today and then you'd prove your words the next You'd look at me and say baby I want you, even after sex What if one year it didn't end in futile tears, bitter boxes, my neglected phone, answering machines and beeps because he's not home. Would a little sun do wonders for that icy heart? Would my sun tanned glow keep you in my court What if one year winter did not come What if for once the fire did not gradually die out and instead of hitting the road you'd stay and see what I'm about Do all things have to work in seasons, flames to dust lovers to, hey you good? I'm just on my way Damn that's cold as ice But hey maybe some of us need to freeze our ass off to ...

Gold-Vault.co 24 Market to Buy/Sell Gold Bullion -- SPOKEN WORD tells the story of Cruz Montoya (Kuno Becker), a rock star on the West Coast poetry circuit, where audiences from San Diego to Seattle gather to hear him perform. Just off the road from a successful tour, he gets an unexpected phone call alerting him that his father, Senior (Ruben Blades), is fatally ill. Cruz rushes home to his dying father, a reclusive former schoolteacher still leading a traditional life in their once bucolic mountain valley, now ravaged by poverty, drug abuse, and violence. After years away, Cruz quickly begins to retreat into his troubled former life, managing a Santa Fe hip-hop club owned by a local crime boss, Emilio (Miguel Sandoval, BOTTLE SHOCK, CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER), who Senior used to run with back in the day. Seduced by the fast action and easy money, Cruz loses his poetic voice, his identity, and almost his life, before he finds a way to heal his relationships with his family, his community, and himself. A nuanced depiction of an evolving father-son relationship, SPOKEN WORD depicts the edgy collision of old and new worlds in a rare, authentic portrait of Latino culture in the Southwest, illustrating how cultural roles and machismo can give way when families can move beyond words, both spoken and unspoken, to share the language of their hearts.

short spoken word piece for "In Bb" project, see www.inbflat.net and www.youtube.com Information By Daniel Donahoo (2009) she closes the lid and unplugs the device no bigger than her thumb from the computer. My lifes work, she says. But, it isnt her lifes work. You see, we store information like an Escher painting. It shouldnt all fit in there. But, it does. And every day we manage to fit more and more into smaller and smaller spaces until one day she says, we will be able to fit all the information the world has everything that everyone knows and believes and dreams into nothing. It will all be there. Stored and filed. Tagged with any keywords you might imagine. Our hard drives will be thin air. They will make nanobots look like elephants. And elephants will be in there too. Tagged. Accessible with search terms like grey, ivory, and the largest land dwelling mammal We will process away at nothing and understand everything. We will think of a word and the information will slip in, not through our ears or eyes but straight thorough our skin. Information will breathe in and out of us, permeate our skin. Our knowing will be as deep as it is wide. You see our work here is to learn so much, to be so full of knowing, that all there is left to do is unlearn. Humanity must get to a point where we let go. We leave the useless ideas and the spent ideologies in the recycle bin. like an adolescent brain shedding neurons. like a snake slithering from its old skin. like an old man who ...

a poem for a girl who held my heart but was confused/unsure at the time.. It must have been some time past noon when I Came home from a friends house that day I remember fixing myself a small glass of lemonade Right before I headed to my room Unaware of the agony that awaited me in the form of an instant message So unexpected was a feeling I can clearly remember Tears mustered around my face the way rain clouds form right before storms hit And it only took the first few words of this sentence this is difficult, but i need to take care of my heart, i know you have said that you'll take care of it but it will only be for the beginning and when our relationship gets deeper, you may not care for it anymore.. those words hit me like an intoxicated fist full of misguided rage Clearly befuddled and misconstrued And I refused to believe that these words were accurate And I knew in my mind that you were confused, you had to have been Because this inadequate statement Just had to be far from the truth Far from reality Far from validity Far from you And the next few messages hit me like the stomach flu Tossing and turning my insides like food poisoning You said to me so it would help me if we didn't talk or see each other anymore because my heart can't handle that.. So I sat there Unable to comprehend Thoughts and emotions began to articulate onto an 8 by 10 Black and red comprehension notebook I sat there Silent Like a solitary ship wrecked sailor stranded on an abandoned island ...
