After a momentous crossing of the Golden Gate, our ST troop plodded forward on Highway-1, winding up the serpentine PCH toward Stimson Beach and Point Reyes. Fog made the challenging roadway even more formidable, but our mounts were ready for anything, including the elder statesman of the five, Honda's ST1300. Making its debut back in 2002, the Honda ST1300 has the longest tusks in our ST test. A refinement of the decade-long run of its ST1100 predecessor, the 1300 embodies the touring pedigree of the manufacturer which brought us the Gold Wing. Motoring at a rapid pace up the coast past Cambria and San Simeon, it is easy to fall in love with the Yamaha FJR1300. We already discovered as much in our previous ST comparos, with the FJR victorious in 2004 and just falling short in 2006. If it was to be victorious this year, it would be a real upset, as our Tuning Fork test bikes, which included the ABS-equipped standard and auto-shifting AE version, were 2007 models - the only '07s in our testing cadre. Approaching the darkened mountains of Big Sur, we charged through the dark for our Monterey hotel beds in the refined comfort and immediate confidence radiating from the Yamaha. Whereas most bikes headline with the motor, the highlight of the FJR, by far, is its stellar handling. My review of the 2011 touring sport GLS, wonderful car! I did so much researching on the internet and did some test driving of vehicle's, and decided on this vehicle, it basically was my last choice. As I was driving to the car lot to test drive it, I was hoping I would like it, and I sure DID! Fully loaded for about $22000, any other vehicle you'd be looking at least $25000 for what you'd be getting with this car. Base model is okay, but if you can do it, go for the better one, so worth it, it's like a different car, looks, but also handing is WAY better, you'll just have so much more fun driving it. The Honda ST1300 is a Touring motorcycle manufactured by Honda and introduced to Europe in 2002 — where it was named the Pan-European. The following year, it was released in North America as the ST1300 in the sport touring category. Superseding the ST1100, the bike features a standard riding posture, a liquid-cooled V4 engine and a fully-faired body with standard hard panniers (saddlebags). At high speeds the ST1300 may exhibit a weave instability mode. Citing this instability, a number of UK police forces have withdrawn the ST1300P from service. On 27 April 2007, Coroner Dr James Adeley, speaking at an inquest into the death of experienced police motorcyclist PC David Shreeve, announced that he would write to all Chief Constables in England warning of the "serious threat" to riders' lives posed by the ST1300P (the emergency services version of the ST1300 Pan-European), and the "catastrophic result" of the high speed weave.PC Shreeve was thrown from his bike and killed on 9 November 2005. Subsequent safety checks resulted in one examiner sustaining several broken bones in a similar incident. In their October 2007 Issue, Ben Wilkins in the British magazine RiDE reported that a team was able to demonstrate that a Honda ST1300 will produce at 110 miles per hour (180 km/h) under certain loading conditions a rear wheel maximum yaw of 11 degrees per second, noticed by the rider as "a consistent and alarming sideways movement", naming the behavior "Pan weave". The bike stood up momentarily during corner entry causing me to go wide. As I was doing what I could to correct my line, I hit a woodchip near the white line that washed out the front tire causing me to crash. Ended up with a broken fibula. Lucky I didnt hit the tree or it would have been much worse!
