For guaranteed traction and security when running on icy, snowy terrain, La Sportiva has launched a solution inspired by the auto racing industry. Rally racing tyres are hand studded during winter to achieve maximum safety in extreme weather. Inspired by this concept, La Sportiva has created the AT Grip Spike: removable hobnails that are easy to insert into any rubber soled shoe, providing exceptional traction on ice, snow and mud. The self-fitting studs are easily applied using the complementary spanner. The studs are also adjustable to match various terrain conditions: slightly icy terrain would require only one single toe spike, whereas snowy or muddy conditions would require a greater stud depth. The number of spikes inserted is also adjustable depending on individual requirements. When the studs are no longer required they can be easily removed, and the sole will return to its original condition. The studs can be reinserted whenever required. The new La Sportiva climbing shoe. 2010 climbing collection. A lace up version of the famous Katana model which offers the same excellent multifunctional performance with the addition of several new technical solutions which further enhance the high levels of performance. The P3 System maintains the downturned shape unaltered for the life of the shoe. The innovative construction method inserts the lining between the leather uppers and the rubber rand, a solution which brings together the structural advantages of a lined shoe and the breathability and precision of an unlined shoe. The tongue is made using a soft and breathable material and the lacing system allows for optimum regulation of the internal volume of the shoe: all elements aimed at providing a great overall fit. La Sportiva was established over 80 years ago in a small town at the foothills of the Dolomites, by a skilled cobbler Narciso Delladio. At the time, he worked in what was then a small artisan workshop repairing old leather boots, one of the valley's oldest trades. So, what better inspiration could there be to get La Sportiva's "ambassadors" actively involved in the new edition of La Sportiva ambassadors calendar for 2012? So well-known names (such as Adam Ondra, Nalle Hukkataival, Lucas Preti, Pietro Dal Pra, Luca Zardini, Cody Roth, Michele Caminati, Dodo Kopold, Patxi Usobiaga, Katharina Saurwein, Hansjörg Auer, Gerhard Horager) traded places for the day with cow hands, field workers, shepherds and wood cutters, in the beautiful setting of Sadole, a small mountain hamlet in Ziano di Fiemme just a few kilometres from La Sportiva. Two sun-soaked days spent in Sadole's flowery fields and grazing grounds in the company of cows, goats and plenty of polenta, resulted in 12 "inspirational" shots of the athletes experiencing hands-on some of the valley's most ancient trades. They were all clad in "old school" styles, courtesy of the museum of Nonno Gustavo di Bellamonte (Predazzo) which is home to a precious collection of artifacts from the valley. The 2012 edition of La Sportiva athlete's calendar will be available from December 2011, either online or at official La Sportiva events throughout the year.
