A layer of real silver metal is deposited between two layers of paint. The Chrome Effect system is comprised of three proprietary coatings. Two of the coatings are essentially automotive grade paints and are applied in your paint booth. The silver chrome like coating is applied with our special portable Chrome Effect system The silver mist builds upon the base coated part to give a perfect mirror shine. The Chrome effect process involves the following key steps: 1. Application of an adhesion promoting primer. Various primers have been developed and now even adhesion to difficult substrates such as polypropylene can be achieved. 2. Application of bright metallic chrome finish. Since the coating is applied by spraying, selective areas can be coated. 3. Application of 2-pack polyurethane clear lacquer. The lacquers provide chemical and wear resistance. An added benefit is that the lacquer reduces finger marking, which can be a problem on conventionally plated parts. The chrome effect process is carried out at low temperatures, typically below 60°C, so even thin wall plastic substrates can be coated. The chrome effect process is not meant to be a direct replacement for conventional chrome electroplating and would generally be more expensive when compared to electroplated <b>...</b>

I got this idea from bowtiebadboy when he had mentioned this paint in one of his videos. Over the years I was very disappointed with a number of companies who claimed to have chrome spray paint. This Dupli-color is the best I've seen and I just wanted to share. Alclad and Spaz Stix and others are likely better and nothing beats real plating (vacuumizing of aluminum by chrometech), but for a cheap solution that's pretty darn cheap, this is the way to go. I'll be persueing this further with sealers and I'll share more info as I experiement.
