Special Effects Tutorial: Squibs 1
Our first video on squib-making. This was made a few months ago, and is a bit dated now that we've improved upon greatly. However, it gives the general idea of how it works. A major problem seen in this video is the flashes from the explosions. Also, lighting is tricky with our crappy camera, and blood splatters are not easily seen. Nevertheless, we plan on correcting these problems in future videos. For now, enjoy our crap. Squibs (1935) Betty Balfour & Stanley Holloway
Silent screen actress Betty Balfour first appeared as the cockney flower seller Squibs in 1921, and when the film was remade in 1935 by director Henry Edwards it practically brought an end to her screen career. Produced by Julius Hagen for Twickenham Studios, the film was released by Gaumont British, probably to ensure prestige bookings on the Odeon circuit of cinemas. Although the company probably had high hopes for the film, it was too episodic and would have appeared dated even by 1935 standards when viewed alongside the American musicals of the period, or even the films of Jessie Matthews with their more modernistic feel. Much of the film appears studio bound, including the opening musical number "One way street" featuring Betty Balfour and Stanley Holloway which is featured in this clip. The film is now part of Renown Films distribution library, and hopefully they might eventually consider it for dvd release, so that it can be properly reappraised. www.renownpicturesltd.com

Yeah, well these are like the cheapie ones that had 2 buttons, run on a battery and were overpowered by the Atari 2600 many times over. A neat collection of games for enthusiasts and collectors, but lacking the depth of gameplay that most may expect. It's a funny novelty item and gets a laugh from those who remember the original. Steve actually started to see them, but defines them as squibs - which is fine. The million flash video is the main example, but the video is not very good and only lasts for 2 seconds. The flashes are not the main cause, that would be silly, but I would call them the first stage of many stages. These flashes are found everywhere building 1,2, and 7. These flashes cannot be explained by fire, office materials, 767's, debunkers, Swiss battery guys, escapist or denialists.
