I sang "Squinty Eyes" for my girl when I proposed to her. I took her to a castle in Hiedleburg Germany and sang this to her in the royal family's chaple. Squinty Eye is our club's annual SASS Cowboy shoot, held each August. Nearly a hundred people from all over the country attended this year's event. Single Action Shooting is the fastest growing shooting sport in the world- yes, even Europe where the mystique and intrigue of the American West is alive and well. Shooting with guns and bullets from two centuries ago, wearing the same kind of clothing, the action is fast and furious. Some of these folks can hold their own against modern weapons. There is no restriciton on age or gender- real boys and girls compete with grown ups on the same scenarios, though really young kids can use .22 rifles and revolvers and light gauge shotguns. On 14 January 2008, the bracket supporting a main cable on Glasgow's Clyde Arc Bridge (known locally as the Squinty Bridge) failed causing the cable to crash down on to the bridge deck. The bridge was closed for many months while all the bridge cables and brackets were checked and repaired. This video tells the story of the failure and the repairs. It includes what I believe to be the first video taken after the failure - long before the TV or other media arrived on scene.

Someone asked about Squinty from PetSmart and how tame he was. So here he is to see. He's not usually nippy like that. But he'd taken a tumble out the door right before I shot this, so maybe he was a little shaken up. Other than that the interaction is normal; no real fear, but not super friendly either. Squinty is the father of Sweet Pea's 1/23/2009 litter of five (including Lily) that feature prominently on this account. He shares an open wall with Pip (of wipeout tendencies) and the two have snuffly makeout sessions through the bars, and are generally much more interested in each other than anything else.
