One test does not fit all

The overuse and misuse of standardized testing is threatening BC's outstanding public education system. BC Teachers believe the province needs to put a moratorium on standardized tests and establish a task force with all education partner groups to develop a better system - a system that puts learners first. Currently in BC, the proliferation of high stakes testing is forcing more and more teachers to teach to the test. That narrows the curriculum and takes other valuable learning opportunities away from students.

The wrong standerd (standardized testing)

Having a standardized school system is very important to the social welfare of a country or city. Creating a standardized school system allows individuals to attain the same education from any school, allowing the population to be educated better. Though, with an large population, like the United States has; forming proper standardization is problematic because it is troublesome to prove students are getting the proper education, which standardization is supposed to bring about. The main method to show students are getting/have a proper education is through the use of standardized testing like the SAT, ACT, and the Florida FCAT. Although testing by itself is not a problem, the methods which the test is done can be. Some of these dilemmas are caused by the lack of the use of critical thinking skills in the testing, the method which the test is proctored and over emphasis on the test. Improving the way standardized tests are formulated and conducted, putting less emphasis on the standardized testing, and centralizing around the students needs and wants would improve the present school system and make it more palatable for the students within it. This shift would also allow more students to shift into the real world after completing school instead of just being able to answer test questions. Marla Singer Doesn't Take Standardized Tests (Disposable Smile)

Marla Singer Doesn't Take Standardized Tests (Disposable Smile) by Analog Rebellion **DISCLAIMER: I have absolutely no rights to this song, it belongs to Analog Rebellion and Daniel Hunter. I just noticed this brilliant song wasn't on youtube, and I just needed to share it. Lyrics: be weary of blood cells, drawn in black and white, save you from yourself, by way of empty sky, you trace lines with such great expertise, chronic pain from the kissing disease, take it slow, ease yourself from denial, you, right there, with the disposable smile x3 you and i so perfectly intertwined, on a ride to search for the perfect song, take my palm, i am so frightened and blind, you, right there, with your disposable smile x3 you, right there, you're just a face in a crowd, standing there like something's perfectly high up, you prepare and give us nothing in return, you right there with the disposable burns, take me home and leave me hanging at the door, you, that way, have always been hard to ignore x2 you trace lines with such great expertise, chronic pain from the kissing disease, take it slow, ease yourself from denial, you, right there, with your disposable smile x5

Standardized Testing and Teacher Cheating -Samori Speaks

SamoriCamara.com http The cheating scandals around standardized tests should alarm Afrikan people that we need to make a firm commitment to developing a new independent system of schools or home schools based on our needs. Pay-for-performance is not working as teachers lose interest in the education process and only "teach for the test." I do not blame them, but our children are losing in this game of high-stakes assessment. The focus on testing as the main assessment limits the education of school children and does not assess very important elements. For example, these tests do not assess commitment, love of learning, self-awareness, overall character, and many others characteristics that are absolutely important for Afrikan liberation. We must build our own institutions and assess our children in a way that is relevant to our plight and our situation right now.
