What is the longest drinking straw that you can actually drink out of? Well in this video, we put the theory to the test. We started off with a one metre long straw made out of drinking straws taped together. We moved on to two pieces of plastic tubing, each 6 metres in length with different diameters. Then we tried a 10.5 metre tube over a cliff's edge. The maximum we achieved was about 7 metres though theoretically up to 10.3 metres is possible if a perfect vacuum is created.

They arrived on time and were denied. After another bus pulled up and they were ushered in through the side entrance. END UPDATE#1 The vote was supposed to be until 1 or 2 pm, but GOP security prevented registered Delegates from entering the building who were wearing Ron Paul signs at 10am. I was standing over by the Granny warriors when 2 delegates approached me and asked me to help them get into the convention center. They had showed up at the door a little before 10am wearing Ron Paul shirts. The security guard told them to change into proper attire. They left and changed then came back and it was now 10:10/10:20 and the security told them the registration was closed. Apparently everyone who showed up from out of town or with an online registration recpt. was denied access unless they got there before 10am and in proper attire. Sunshine Daydream is an unreleased movie shot at the Grateful Dead's 1972 Veneta, Oregon concert to benefit the Springfield Creamery in nearby Springfield, Oregon. The film is sometimes shown at small film festivals, and bootleg recordings of it have circulated on VHS and DVD and as digital downloads. The concert, recorded on August 27, 1972, was filmed using four 16 mm cameras, in the woods of the Oregon Coast Range foothills, on the grounds of the Oregon Country Fair. Originally even more cameras had been planned, under an ambitious scheme: "The plot was to develop a signature visual style of representing the band: a camera for each of the 16 channels (at least!) emphasizing the visual kinetics of the music making itself as well as the enormous open communication within the band." Ken Kesey and old cohort Ken Babbs emceed the concert. The Dead played all afternoon and into the dark after an opening set by the New Riders of the Purple Sage. The title of the film is taken from the coda section of the Dead song "Sugar Magnolia".

Straw bales (not hay bales) are a great place to plant vegetables. Here's my start-to-finish results! The straw is an easy, loose place for the plants to spread out their roots. Also, up on the straw bale there is essentially ZERO weeds to pick. (Note: do NOT use a "hay" bale: unlike straw, the hay has lots of seeds and you will have wheat/oats/grass/etc. growing as weeds in your garden!). Straw bales have some benefits like "raised bed" gardening.

The Setup: grab two straws and an empty beer bottle. On the straws, mark a "no man's land" of about 2-3 inches in the middle. The Rules: Neither you, nor anything else is allowed to touch anything in this "no man's land" area on either straw. Each independent side of each straw can touch either you (your fingers), or the beer bottle... but no one side can touch both you and the bottle at the same time. The Challenge: Staying within these rules, use the straws to pick up the bottle off the table, carry it over the wall, and land it safely on the other side. The Secret: After they've made a mess of their attempts, reveal the truth: You only need one of the two straws! If you crease a "hook" into one of the sides, and start to slide it down the neck of the bottle, it will wedge itself in. Once this happens, you can pull up the straw, and the bottle along with it!

Daily News @ RevolutionNews.US — And the winner of the CPAC presidential straw poll is ... Ron Paul. That marks the libertarian Texas congressman's second win in a row. Just as he did last year, Mitt Romney came in second, with 23 percent to Paul's 30 percent. This mirrors 2010's poll almost exactly, when Paul got 31 percent and Romney 22 percent. When the results were officially announced, CPAC's main hall erupted in cheers and boos, with Paul supporters trying to out-shout the disappointed majority. Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, whose libertarian message largely overlaps with Paul's, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie tied for third with 6 percent each. Newt Gingrich got 5 percent. Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty got just 4 percent. Also with 4 percent were Michele Bachmann and Mitch Daniels, Indiana's governor. Sarah Palin, who did not attend CPAC, got 3 percent, while former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain greceived 2 percent, as did Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum. 3742 people participated in the poll, a minority of the 10000+ attendees.
