Storm chasers Michael Laca, Jim Leonard, Ray Walker, Eric Baker and Max Hagen intercepted a developing supercell thunderstorm in Lane County, Kansas on the afternoon of May 22, 2008. The storm produced several intense staccato lightning strikes and developed a distinct rotating wall cloud with an associated area of rotating dust at the surface, though no condensation funnel was initially visible. As the rotation approached our area, the visible surface reflection disappeared, but a small conical funnel with strong rotation developed almost directly overhead with our surface winds increasing significantly. The funnel quickly dissipated as the cell moved off to the north-northeast. The DOW (Doppler On Wheels) makes a brief appearance at the beginning of this clip. The chase team then repositioned ourselves farther to the northeast, meeting up with numerous other chasers in Graham County, Kansas north of I-70, as a separate tornado-warned cell approached from the south, around sunset. This second cell produced strong outflow winds that kicked up a large area of dust. Though not tornadic, the appearance of the dust as it rose rapidly towards the thunderstorm base was quite ominous.

At the end of May 21, 2011, the Titans had captured over 10 tornadoes on video from a pair of LP Cyclic Supercells. This could have easily been the best chase day of the 2011 Storm Season and few people were there to witness these supercells on a true Boom or Bust day. This is a filtered and cropped version of the Melt PV. Original source was rather noisy, had interlacing artifacts, and letterboxed (did not use all of the widescreen space). While I have cleaned it up a little, there is still quite a bit of noise during the hectic animated parts near the middle of the video. But hey, it's YouTube. While the first PV of Melt simply consisted of static pictures, this one gets animated properly at 3:30 (courtesy of Gonzo). In early June 2007 Dave Lewison and I flew back out to tornado alley for a quick spot chase and met up with fellow Canadian storm chasers, Mark Robinson & George Kourounis. This was the last day of that chase trip and after parting ways with George and Mark, we encountered a dying supercell thunderstorm near McCook, NE on the evening of June 8th. We followed this storm until after sunset, and were treated to an amazing lightning display just outside the town of McCook. We stayed the night in McCook and then continued back on towards Denver where we hopped our flight back to NYC. Hope you enjoy the video! This video was shot during our quick fly out/fly back home "spot chase" of June 2005. The month prior we completed a successful two weeks on the road, but we still wanted more storms. So, during the second week in June, the pattern started shaping up for another bout of severe weather, and that's when Dave Lewison and I booked a flight out to Denver on Jet Blue, and headed out for another few days of chasing. No tornadoes we spotted during this trip, but we did see some amazing storms none the less. This one being the best of them. Another video from my digital 8 archives! This was a very memorable chase for me. The day started out in Salina, KS where after an initial morning analysis of the weather data it became clear that our target area would be in either SW Kansas, or the western Oklahoma area. We decided to go for western OK and hit the road. It was around 4pm when we arrived in the Woodward, OK area and storms were already beginning to initiate. I set my camera up and began rolling video! It wasn't long before our target storm began to develop one of the best wall clouds I have ever seen! I rolled video as this feature was taking shape so it made for a nice time lapse segment as you'll see in the video. This storm quickly became tornado warned and as luck would have it, I was positioned right next to one of the towns sirens, lol. Yes, I hope you heeded the warning on the video and turned your PC volume down! Needless to say, it was deafening! We repositioned a few times but the storm never could produce a tornado, but boy it sure tried! Still though, I ended up getting some great time lapse of a rotating storm, was up close and personal with a monster wall cloud, and ended the day with an incredible lightning display! I found this amazing supercell and tornado while chasing in Virginia on April 27, 2011. I initially followed a tornado-warned storm to near Triangle, VA. I lost it in the Washington area traffic. While heading back, there were more storms southwest of Richmond. I picked the southernmost storm and intercepted it on 250 near Oilville. The supercell structure was amazing. I navigated closer to the storm expecting to see a tornado and was rewarded with one crossing Route 250 just to the west of Oilville a 8:10PM. I usually chase storms across Tornado Alley and I rarely have a chance to chase in Virginia. Hopefully, there wasn't significant damage from this tornado.
