El grupo musical Sons Of Maxwell, que viajaba en la línea aérea United Airlines vio como los empleados encargados de cargar las maletas al avión en que viajaban, lanzaron una de sus guitarras por los pisos, rompiéndola. Posteriormente no les atendieron sus denuncias. Desahuciados por el problema, decidieron componer esta canción: United Break Guitars. Para un músico, pocas cosas hay más duras como ver su guitarra favorita destrozada. Según cuenta Dave Carroll, compositor de Sons of Maxwell, la compañía United Airlines le rompió el corazón cuando destrozó su guitarra Taylor de $3.500$ durante una gira. Después de meses de quejas, se ha tomado su particular venganza contándolo en este video que se ha convertido en un fenómeno en Internet. La Historia se remonta a 2008, cuando el grupo descubrió su guitarra hecha añicos por unos empleados de United Airlines que manipuilaban su equipaje. Mientras volaban desde Halifax a Nebraska con parada en Chicago, Dave Carrol cuenta cómo estaba sentado en la parte trasera del avión esperando desembarcar cuando una señora gritó: "¡Dios mío, están lanzando guitarras ahí afuera!" Luego que todo este embrollo saliera a la luz pública en Internet con éste video, la aerolínea se comunicó con Dave, en Julio de 2009, y decidió reponerle su guitarra.

Academy Award-winning writer-director Paul Haggis (Crash, Million Dollar Baby), whose own personal efforts as well as those of Artists for Peace and Justice have already saved countless lives in Haiti, filmed the private recording session to create the accompanying video and behind-the-scenes production, and serves as Film Director and as an Executive Producer with Jones, Richie, Jean, Phillips and Tortorici. The 25th Anniversary recording features over 80 artists and performers.
