It also stretches the abdominal muscles, the spine and the shoulders. Make sure that your lower back isnt too arched when holding this pose.

It helps with sway back, improves digestion and helps soothe menstrual cramps. Make sure that you can sit comfortably on the floor between your feet before trying Supta Virasana.

Supported Supta Virasana With Blocks


elsiesyogakula.com This is a restorative supportive backbend and hip opener with blocks. I can't say that this is an easy restorative pose as it does require your hips, knees and thighs to be sufficiently open in order to recline. If you are comfortable in virasana (hero pose) then this is a great supportive backbend to practice. It's one of my favorites. Personal Practice of Supta Virasana using a 25lb weight as a prop (video 2)


After my preparation practice, I come into Virsasana using a 25lb weight to release the femurs down, As I prepare to descend into Supta virasana, I bring the weight onto the frontal hip bones lengthening/decompressing the lumbar spine. Bent Inward Knee, Dak Kha Thai Yoga Asana


The Dak Kha or Bent Inward Knee asana in the Supine Position. The Thai Dak Kha provides an elegant and deep way to address restrictions in the anterior thigh Sen Lines, Meridians and musculature in a gentle and supportive way. This basic position a facilitated Ardis Supta Virasana is an asymetrical hip, pelvis, groin and thigh opener. It emphasizes Sen Thawari and or Sahatsarangsi and is a wind relieving pose strengthening male and female sex organs, curing indegestion, piles and constipation. I have also found this particular therapeutic asana very helpful for pelvic edema, chronic and acute low back, sciatica, abdominal cramps and bloating as well as knee pain. This is an actual demonstration from a SomaVeda Thai Yoga Practitioner Certification program at the Thai Yoga Center, June 2011. See you in class!
