Love Me Tender... by Stuart Sutcliffe?

In late october 2011 the Stuart Sutcliffe Estate suddenly began selling a recording of Stuart they claimed to be authentic... Stuart was singing 'Love Me Tender' in early Beatles sets, but where would such a recording suddenly come from? Who are the other musicians? Fans quickly became very suspicious... this video tries to explain why. If this recording was authentic it would be sensational, since no voice recording of Stuart was known to exist. But after watching this you'll probably agree that it's more likely that Pauline Sutcliffe has fallen for a scam... the instrumental music in the beginning is an excerpt from 'Cayenne', one of the few authentic recordings Stuart participated in, though never as a singer.

Stuart Sutcliffe: The Lost Beatle

Available on DVD from www.digitalclassicsdvd.co.uk and all major retailers. The story of Stuart Sutcliffe, painter, musician, and founding member of The Beatles, who died when they were on the cusp of fame. At art college in Liverpool in 1959, Stuart Sutcliffe met John Lennon and they soon became close with Lennon persuading Sutcliffe to use the proceeds of a painting he had sold to buy a bass guitar and join his band along with Paul McCartney and George Harrison. Before long, with drummer Pete Best now in the line-up, they won a contract in Hamburg playing sleazy clubs in the seedy Reeperbahn area of the city, amidst the casual sex, drugs and rock n roll of the era. The newly-christened Beatles were on their way. With the band on the brink of success, Sutcliffe left the group to concentrate on his first love, art, and his new love, German photographer Astrid Kirchherr. But Stuart's health soon began to decline. On the 10th April 1962, Stuart suffered a seizure and slipped into a coma. As Astrid cradled his head in her hands, Stuart died of a cerebral haemorrhage cutting short the life of the promising young artist. Interviewees include Stuarts fiancée and Beatles stylist/photographer Astrid Kirchherr, early Beatles manager Allan Williams, Stuarts sister, Pauline Sutcliffe, Liverpool flatmate to Sutcliffe and Lennon, Rod Murray and esteemed American art historian and writer Donald Kuspit. Beatles Stu and Astrid

Music by Cat Stevens 'Oh Very Young' released on his 1974 album Buddha and the Chocolate Box. John Lennon met Sutcliffe in the later part of the 1950s when they were both studying at the Liverpool College of Art, and according to Lennon, Sutcliffe had a "marvellous art portfolio", and was a seriously talented painter who was one of the "stars" of the school. They became best of friends and John persuaded Stu to buy a Höfner 500/5 model, known in Europe as a President bass with the money he had won in a John Moore art exhibition. In May 1960, Stu joined John, Paul and George (then known as The Silver Beetles). Stu's playing style was later described as elementary, mostly sticking to root notes of chords. In Hamburg 1960 when the Beatles first played at the Indra Club his stature grew after he began wearing dark Ray-Ban sunglasses and tight trousers. Sutcliffe's high spot each evening was singing "Love Me Tender", which drew more applause than the other Beatles songs. Astrid Kirchherr was born in 1938 in Hamburg, Germany. After her graduation Astrid enrolled in the Meisterschule für Mode, Textil, Graphik und Werbung in Hamburg, as she wanted to study fashion design, but demonstrated a talent for black-and-white photography and was convinced to switch courses. Astrid met Klaus Voormann at the Meisterschule and shared the same ideas about fashion, culture and music. In 1960, after Astrid and Klaus had had an argument, Klaus wandered down the Reeperbahn (in the St.Pauli ...

Stuart Sutcliffe The Lost Beatle Part 1/4

Stuart Sutcliffe: The Lost Beatle explores the mystique surrounding the Beatles' original bassist, who left the band to follow a different muse and died from a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 22. Told via interviews with an impressive array of Sutcliffe's family and friends--and through uniquely descriptive quotes from his letters--this hour-long documentary reveals a lot of intimate detail about Sutcliffe's transition from promising art-school student in Liverpool (and best friend of John Lennon) to reluctant musician (pressed into service by Lennon) to determined painter within the German avant-garde scene. A lot of Stu's story, as Beatles fans know, is set in Hamburg, during and after the days the group was a house band in the city's red-light district. Familiar tales of friction between Sutcliffe and Paul McCartney abound. But these are offset by a tremendous amount of fresh insight and detail offered by such important Beatles-saga figures as rocker Tony Sheridan, Klaus Voormann and--most crucially--Astrid Kirchherr, the photographer who influenced the Beatles' look and who became Sutcliffe's lover until his death. At art college in Liverpool in 1959, Stuart Sutcliffe met John Lennon and they soon became close -with Lennon persuading Sutcliffe to use the proceeds of a painting he had sold to buy a bass guitar and join his band, along with Paul McCartney and George Harrison. ******PLEASE NOTE THIS VIDEO CONTAINS SOME GRAPHIC SCENES****** Listen On Headphones If Ya Can - How quickly people forget about what this man did, this video will remind them. Peter Sutcliffe (Also known as The 'Yorkshire Ripper, which just served to make him notorious in my mind) Is a serial Killer & piece of scum who Killed & mutilated 13 (that we know of) innocent women & attacked several more, not to mention the trail of emotional destruction & heartache he has left behind in his wake. This piece of crap has applied for Parole which is just ridiculous, He must NOT be released! just lock him in his cell & Super Glue the locks ok. It seems that now he is old & grey & supposedly cured (yeah right) we have to be sympathetic, well, NOT ME, if he gets let out someone else WILL DIE! In Memoriam Stuart Sutcliffe(1940-1962)

Stuart Fergusson Victor Sutcliffe (23 June 1940 10 April 1962) was a painter and the original electric bass guitarist of The Beatles for fifteen months (May 1960August 1961). Sutcliffe earned praise for his paintings, which mostly explored a style related to abstract expressionism. Sutcliffe is one of the group of people sometimes referred to as "the fifth Beatle". Sutcliffe and John Lennon are credited with coming up with the name for the Beatles, as they both liked Buddy Holly's band, The Crickets. Sutcliffe played with the Beatles in Hamburg, where he met photographer Astrid Kirchherr, to whom he was later engaged. He enrolled in the Hamburg College of Art after leaving The Beatles, and studied under future pop artist Eduardo Paolozzi.

Stuart Sutcliffe 1940-1962

Stuart passed away forty eight years ago, a few months shy of his twenty-second birthday. He has always been an enigmatic figure in the Beatles' story. Philip Norman's excellent book, "Shout," first got me imagining what it would have been like to be an art student in Liverpool, like Stu and John, in 1959. I wanted to know more, so I went to Liverpool twenty-one years ago and talked to quite a few people that had known Stuart. The whole story has yet to be told. Thanks again to the folks in Liverpool and London that took the time to answer my endless questions: Bill Harry, Ray McFall, Alan Williams, Bob Wooler, Rod Murray, Helen Anderson, Alan Swerdlow, Nicholas Horsfield, Pete Best, Fred Marsden jr, Faron Ruffley, Norman Chapman, and John Byrne. Not forgetting, Horst Fascher, Mike Evans, and Brenda H. This is a link to my favorite pictures of Stuart on stage, taken by Peter Bruchmann around May 1961 at the Top Ten club: www.beatlesource.com Here is a link to Wikipedia if you would like to know more about Stuart: en.wikipedia.org Thank you for watching.

Pete Best on Stuart Sutcliffe (transcript below)

Pete Best in response to a question from an audience member at Abbey Road On The River. The individual asked what his thoughts were on Stuart Sutcliffe, original bassist of The Beatles. Transcript is below; sorry for any mistakes. I wasn't able to make everything out. Pete: ... He's been gone for many, many years. Talkin' about, y'know, how talented he was, Stu's first love was painting, you know, apart from Astrid Kirchherr, and anyone's who's seen his work and his exhibitions will realize what a prolific artist he was. And we saw that in Hamburg, when he used to take out his sketchpad, pick someone from the audience, take out a stick of charcoal, [makes sketching motions]... fantastic. The musician... I've defended his corner for many, many years because the media, the media over the years had said that Stu was a bad bass player, and he wasn't. Stu was a very good bass player, and he was a very simple bass player. Ok? Because at the end of the day, we were playing rock n' roll. And what he did, or, the music was exactly what a bass player should do in those days. I was the drummer, right? The bass player and the drummer were the engine room of a rock and roll band, and Stu was very [?]. Over the years [?] said he couldn't play bass, he turned his back on the audience. He didn't, okay. That was the style; that was his move onstage. Everyone had their own [??]... sweaty and dirty, you know, Paul's the flamboyant cutie-cutie guy, John was the out-and-out rocker, right.
