
Iran v-ballers down Poland in FIVB W-Cup Iran's national volleyball team has gained another victory after upsetting the hitherto undefeated Polish team in the 2011 International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Men's World Cup. The European heavyweights fell victim to the Iranians' resilience and resolve on the first day of the second-round action after Iran twice came back from behind to win the game 3-2 at Japan's Osaka Central Gym on Thursday. The scintillating match saw its first set go Poland's way 25-23, but the Iranians drew level in the second set with a 28-26 scoreline. The Polish team reasserted itself in the third set after an overwhelming 25-8 win handed them their second, and last, set of the game. This, however, served as a wakeup call for the Iranians as they rallied to take the fourth set 26-24 and finished off Poland 15-11 in the fifth. Iran's Seyyed Mehdi Bazargard, who scored 15 points, was named the most impressive player of the match. Iran had already defeated European champions Serbia and tournament hosts Japan. The country's only defeat came before Cuba. The Iranians are due to line up against Argentina on Friday. "We are very happy with this victory because we beat a strong team. I told the players after the win over Serbia that we were looking for another surprise. Our players were good. We took the chance when we got it.
