Blender 2.5 Python Scripting in the Game Engine Entering Text at Run Time Part 2
In part 2 of this video tutorial I show how to process the spacebar and backspace key presses. The spacebar is straight forward but the backspace delete requires string manipulation. The easiest way to do this is to use Python's built in string functions and methods. The tutorial shows how to put all key press processing code into one Python script. Key points - You can set up a keyboard sensor to add a space character, the original 'all keys' code needs modifying so that it does not affect the string. Logic bricks can be used to sense a backspace but a property actuator is not capable of deleting a character from a string. The Python len() function returns the length of a string and can be used identify the last character. The method rstrip() will right strip the character. All keyboard processing code can be put into one Python script using a series of if statements.

It's a mod... based on Wario Ware? O_o Version 25/26/27 I think. In this game, you follow the instructions and correctly do what they say to earn points. At the end of each round is a boss minigame, which gives you 5 points if you win it. 0:00 - 3:55 is one whole game. I wanted to include a whole game in the video, so that you can see what it actually is like, and it made more sense to put it at the beginning of the video rather than at the end. 3:56 - 8:37 is basically a montage of other clips from other games (my normal video material ^^). I didn't add any captions (my usual text at the bottom of my videos), because I think it'd just get confusing if there's text at the top of the screen from the game, me saying stuff with captions at the bottom, and everyone (including me) using voice chat. Venom told me about this server a few days ago (like 5 days?), and around 2-3 days ago the map got a graphical reworking. The colorful map is the new one, the more dull map is the old one. Luckily, the newer map works better for source recording, as the old map had a lot of random exclamation marks everywhere when I played back the recorded demo. I also realized that there was sound that went with this map eventually, so a couple of clips don't have music due to that reason (ie 3:56). Anyway, very fun map to play, I reccomend trying it for at least 20 mins to see if you like it ;). Yep, Tom Lehrer's fun lil ditty about that big poster you've probably all seen in your local chemistry room. If you can memorize this and sing it to your chemistry teacher, I'm sure they'll most likely give you extra credit. :P This is my movie for my computer class this year, so all that text at the end... that was to fill time and make it the required 3 minutes. o__x Basically all it's saying is this: 15 elements discovered since Tom wrote it, 10 of which have been named. -insert names of those above mentioned 10 elements here. If you want to know them so badly, watch it or look it up on Wikipedia.- Then credits to Tom for making the song and Wikipedia for the extra info about it and those extra elements. And a small disclaimer at the end saying I drew all the pictures in MSPaint. Really, that's all the text at the end is saying. All in all, I think it turned out rather well... I'm happy with it, anyway. The only thing that I really don't like is that it lags a bit around molybdenum and argon-krypton-neon and so on. But I can excuse the last one because he's rattling them off SO FREAKING FAST the program has a hard time keeping up with him. PS: I used the program called PowerDirector to make this.
