The Fountainhead (trailer)

"Do you want to stand alone against the whole world?" Architect Howard Roark has heard the voices of safety, convention, compromise. But Roark is a man as unyielding as the mighty structures he builds. And he will sacrifice everything--the woman he loves or the project he dynamites when others interfere with his design--to maintain his individuality in a world of lockstep conformity. imdb.com www.getwhatyoupayfor.com http

Sawyer&Kate || Quotes from The Fountainhead

The Fountainhead was the book Sawyer read when separated from Kate. It is also my favorite book. The main characters are Howard Roark and Dominique Francon. They are in love, but he lets her go for some long years, because she is afraid of the world's and other people's power to crush everything that is important to her. I have taken out some quotes from the book, simplified them a little bit and made a video with Sawyer and Kate. Here are full quotes I have used: "Why do you always stare at me?" she asked sharply. She thought with relief that words were the best means of estrangement. She had denied everything they both knew by naming it wrong. "We never need to say anything to each other when we're together. This is - for the time when we won't be together. I love you, Dominique. As selfishly as the fact that I exist. As selfishly as my lungs breath air. The kind of surrender I could have from you now would give me nothing but an empty hulk. If I demanded it, I'd destroy you. That's why I won't stop you. I'll let you go. I don't know how I'll live through tonight, but I will. I want you whole, as I am, as you'll remain in the battle you've chosen. You must learn not to be afraid of the world. When you have, you'll come back to me. They won't destroy me. And they won't destroy you. I'll wait for you. I love you. I'm saying this now for all the years we'll have to wait. I love you" But the thought of her remained. He watched it with curiosity. It was strange to be ...

The Fountainhead - 1949 - Court Speech : I am an Architect.

The Fountainhead is a 1949 American film directed by King Vidor, based on the best-selling book of the same name by Ayn Rand, who wrote the screenplay adaptation. The film and novel focus on Howard Roark, is an individualistic young architect who chooses to struggle in obscurity rather than compromise his artistic and personal vision, following his battle to practice what the public sees as modern architecture, which he believes to be superior, despite an establishment centered on tradition-worship. The complex relationships between Roark and the various kinds of individuals who assist or hinder his progress, or both, allow the film to be at once a romantic drama and a philosophical work. Roark is Rand's embodiment of the human spirit, and his struggle represents the triumph of individualism over collectivism. The film stars Gary Cooper as Roark, Patricia Neal as Dominique Francon, Raymond Massey as Gail Wynand, Robert Douglas as Ellsworth Toohey and Kent Smith as Peter Keating. Although Rand's screenplay was used with minimal alterations, Rand criticized the film for elements such as editing, production design and acting. While it was initially panned by critics and lost money at the box office, the film spurred public interest in the novel, increasing its sales, and has been reappraised by contemporary critics, who deemed it to be one of King Vidor's best films. Just $7.49 a month. The Fountainhead is a 1943 novel by Ayn Rand. It was Rand's first major literary success and brought her fame and financial security. More than 6.5 million copies of the book have been sold worldwide. The Fountainhead's protagonist, Howard Roark, is an individualistic young architect who chooses to struggle in obscurity rather than compromise his artistic and personal vision. The book follows his battle to practice what the public sees as modern architecture, which he believes to be superior, despite an establishment centered on tradition-worship. How others in the novel relate to Roark demonstrates Rand's various archetypes of human character, all of which are variants between Roark, the author's ideal man of independent-mindedness and integrity, and what she described as the "second-handers." The complex relationships between Roark and the various kinds of individuals who assist or hinder his progress, or both, allow the novel to be at once a romantic drama and a philosophical work. Roark is Rand's embodiment of the human spirit, and his struggle represents the triumph of individualism over collectivism. The manuscript was rejected by twelve publishers before a young editor, Archibald Ogden, at the Bobbs-Merrill Company risked his job to get it published ...

Fountainhead Roark/Dominique- She's So High

"It was an act that could be performed in tenderness, as a seal of love, or in contempt, as a symbol of humiliation and conquest. It could be the act of a lover or the act of a soldier violating an enemy woman. He did it as an act of scorn. Not as love, but as defilement. And this made her lie still and submit. One gesture of tenderness from him--and she would have remained cold, untouched..." Howard Roark and Dominique Francon...what more do I really have to say? There are very few books that I can claim meant something in my life. In fact, there were only two, including this one. Ayn Rand, I would like to say you are sacred, but it might mean more if I just say...you're an incredibly selfish woman. ;P I don't own the book Fountainhead and I don't own the movie adapted from it. I don't own the song. I simply own the selfish ability that enabled me to make this video. ;P
