But there's one in the Inner Mongolia that stretches more than 60 miles. It's a frustrating ordeal for drivers who move at a snail's pace. Chinese drivers are stuck in a bumper-to-bumper traffic jam that stretches more than 62 miles on a highway in northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. This jam has been going on practically non-stop since July 10th. The cause? Workers reconstructing and expanding the highway that links Beijing and Tibet. An endless line of vehicles, mostly trucks, could be seen crawling along the highway from Ulanqab to the regional capital of Hohhot. Chinese state media reported that motorists took over 40 hours to complete the 62-mile drive. Many drivers are frustrated that construction could take up to two years to complete... and that there aren't any plans for road diversions or alternate routes. Many motorists choose to take a risk entering the congested highway. Once caught in a log traffic jam like this, frustrated drivers find few options for escape. [Stranded Driver]: "I know. But nobody is directing the traffic. It's too difficult to pass through from here." Motorists hope that local police could help divert traffic and post traffic signs ahead of the blocked sections to prevent massive traffic jams like this one. This is a montage of scenes recorded on June 27, 2011 of the historic flooding in Minot, ND. From severe traffic jams to the actual flooding itself, pretty much everything is covered. The video, in a way, covers a typical trip from someone on the north end of town. Due to city design, most of the much-needed businesses are on the south end of town (Wal-mart, most restaurants, grocery stores, etc.) with almost nothing in the north half. Minot has been building to the south for years and almost never building to the north. This design causes a lot of trouble for residents in the northern parts of town because they have to get across the river in order to get to these necessities. With the main road through Minot closed so city infrastructure can be protected, the bypass is thus the only way to get to the south end of town. Before the flooding, traffic on this road is usually very light so a 2-laned road makes sense. Normally, I see maybe around 10 cars on the normally 9-minute journey along this road. Going south took a massive 80 minutes. Due to the flooding and the city layout, the southbound lane is horribly jammed with traffic literally backed up for miles. It's also slow-moving due to many roads converging onto the bypass (such as the one leading from Burlington, of which is also flooded). A purely instrumental affair, alternately dated as 1968 or 1970, this studio material is among the most intriguing unreleased pieces of either performer. The lineup is listed as Jimi Hendrix (guitar), Steve Winwood (piano), Chris Wood (flute), Rick Grech (bass), and Jim Capaldi (drums), but the actual lineup of these recordings is uncertain. Only Hendrix is identifiable with certainty. The overall sound resembles Traffic, and the piano and flute parts seem particularly recognizable as Steve and Chris, respectively. The music on this cd consists of jams that, in contrast to Traffic's usual melodic sensibilities, range from minor key to almost atonal structure. Some of the magic of the "Voodoo Chile" session is also evident on this recording. The jams sound basically spontaneous, organized around particular keys with shifting tempos, and lack a distinct song structure. None of them sound like they were even intended to have vocal parts. For the most part, the piano and drums drive the rhythms while the guitar and flute solo. The extraordinary aspect of the recording is the complementary interplay between Jimi and Chris. While Jimi builds upon driving vamps that eventually erupt into molten solos, Chris counterbalances with his usual delicate, mellowing flute. The result of this collaboration is at least interesting, and sometimes magical. Unlike other Hendrix jam sessions, Jimi seems to have a lot of respect for Traffic and doesn't fully dominate the proceedings, which <b>...</b>

Using Hubble Space Telescope images collected over 14 years, Hartigan has created time-lapse movies that offer astronomers their first glimpse of the dynamic behavior of stellar jets, huge torrents of gas and particles that spew from the poles of newborn stars. An analysis of the movies that was published in The Astrophysical Journal is forcing astronomers to rethink some of the processes that occur during the latter stages of star birth. And in an effort to learn even more, Hartigan and colleagues are using powerful lasers to recreate a small-scale version of the solar-system-sized jets in a lab in upstate New York. "The Hubble's given us spectacular images," said Hartigan, professor of physics and astronomy at Rice. "In the nebulae where stars are born, for instance, we can see beautiful filaments and detailed structure. We know these images are frozen snapshots in time, but we would need to watch for hundreds of thousands of years to see how things actually play out." Hartigan said stellar jets are different because they move very quickly. Stellar jets blast out into space from the poles of newly formed stars at about 600000 miles an hour. Astronomers first noticed them about 50 years ago, and they believe the sun probably had stellar jets when it formed about 4.5 billion years ago. Hartigan began using Hubble to collect still frames of stellar jets in 1994.
