In Flames Come Clarity Pacing Death's Trail Cow Puncher

Bronco Peak is a short trail that is situated within the Corral Canyon OHV area and is located just south of I-8 near to the town of Alpine or about half an hour east of El Cajon. According to the Southern California Back Roads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails book by Charles Wells, Bronco Peak is an difficult rated nasty hardcore trail very steep with tight brush large boulders and that several places are steep enough to cause a rollover if driver is not careful front and rear lockers are recommended. And, even thought its only 2.7 miles long, it is also recommended that you allow about 2 hours to complete it and more if you are going with a bigger group. Being that this trail was so short, our group of 3 Jeep JK Unlimited Rubicons, 2 JK Unlimited Saharas and 2 JK 2-Doors Xs decided to first run another short but difficult rated trail nearby trail called Sidewinder. Unfortunately, it would also be the only trail that a majority of our group would do.

Target is an 8" x 16" steel popper from Mike Gibson Targets. The steel is 3/8' thick, 500 Brinnel. The bullets disintegrate and have minimal if any impact on the steel. I have in-laws that live in Henderson, Nevada, and so as you can imagine, I get to spend a lot of time out in the Las Vegas area. And, while I have always known about the Valley of Fire and some of the trails that exist back there, Ive never had a chance to check any of them out or at least not until recently. Now, while there is no off-roading allowed within the boundaries of the Valley of Fire State Park, there is a large area located on the outskirts of the park near to the north shores of Lake Mead and to the town of Logandale. This area contains a large network of OHV trails and is specifically known as the Logandale Trails. Of the trails that are designated for Jeeps, the Shitter, Rock Bottom, Hawkins, Bowl, Matterhorn, Arockalpse are the most popular and most of these have tough optional side routes that you can try out such as the infamous S-Turn. Of course, in addition to the great off roading you can do, the scenery is simply to die for and if youre willing to do some exploring on foot, there are some beautiful springs and petroglpyhs that you can hike up to as well. For Presidents Day Weekend 2009, my family and I decided to spend a few nights in Overton, NV and wheel as much of the Logandale Trails as we could. Located near the town of Lucerne, CA, the Bullfrog Jeep Trail is one of the newest additions to the Johnson Valley area and one of the most scenic. Although it is one of the easiest trails in the valley, it is still rated "difficult" and depending on the lines you take, it really is all that and more. Working its way through and around a well known outcrop of boulders called the Cougar Buttes, Bullfrog offers a myriad of challenges throughout the length of the trail and they come one right after the other. The rocks and ledges are formidable and the more flex you have, the easier it will be to negotiate this trail. Of course, a locker or two wouldn't hurt to have and aside from tow hooks front and rear, I'd have to say that rocker guards are a must here. When we ran this trail, one of the guys in our group showed up in a stock 2-Door Jeep JK Wranger X and with stock street tires. Although he did need some help getting up and over some of the biggest obstacles, he made his way through the trail just fine. Granted, he did have heavy duty aftermarket front and rear bumpers and a set of good rocker guards and all did their job well.

Rodriguez Canyon (sometimes referred to as the Rodriguez Spur Truck Trail) is a Jeep trail that is located in San Diego County, crosses through Anza Borrego State Park and is near the resort town of Banner, CA. Cutting between Chariot and Granite Mountain, Rodriguez Canyon parallels the more well known Oriflamme Canyon Trail and is a part of a network of trails that were established to service the many mines in the Julian area including the Desert Queen and Pandora Mine. While this trail is for the most part very easy and one that can be done in any 4WD SUV, there is a short spur near the Pandora Mine that is very technical and because of it, we affectionately called this section of trail, "Pandora's Box". In this short video, you will get to see the run we did up Pandora's Box back in September 2010 with our good friends gonegoanna's, TikiJK and Moochie. While our Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon was sitting on an Off Road Evolution long arm kit, coil overs and 40" Toyo MT's, everyone else was just sitting on about 4" of lift, running 35" tires and, even though some strapping and winching was required, they all did just fine. Anyway, I hope you enjoy our video.
