Frontiers Records is excited to present a new and interesting musical project called TRILLIUM which features the talents of the American singer and songwriter Amanda Somerville. Mostly known for her catalogue of projects, studio work, guest appearances and live shows garnered to date with bands like AVANTASIA, KAMELOT and EPICA, her most recent endeavors include touring with renowned artist Ian Gillan (DEEP PURPLE) and a duet album entitled KISKE-SOMERVILLE with metal legend Michael Kiske (HELLOWEEN). TRILLIUM is, however, something new, exciting and very diverse for Amanda, who describes it "more like an expedition with my musical family to explore and celebrate the metamorphosis I've gone through as an artist over the past several years. Quite simply, it's my new baby." The TRILLIUM name came about since it "symbolizes a trinity because things are always showing up in 3s in my environment and there are a number of triads occurring in this project, as well," says Amanda. "The name of the album, 'Alloy', is symbolic and metaphorical. An alloy is a substance composed of two or more metals, or of a metal or metals combined with a nonmetal, intimately mixed. It also means standard; quality; fineness and is an admixture, as of good with evil. I'm a Pisces, so I'm all about duality and combining known elements — sometimes opposing each other - to create something different. Though I've been working myself further and further into the metal scene, I still always feel the need <b>...</b>

2 days off in Budapest!! "Trillium" - wow, what an epic. This took a monumental amount of work on my behalf and I'm not 100% satisfied with my performance, but it still kicks ass. The sudden tempo increase to 180 BPM at 4:46 was very difficult to nail, since it's initiated with a 16th note double kick run. In the isolated take you'll noticed that some of the punch in the kick drops out. I had to resort to an 'all-ankles' approach rather than 'leggin' it', since it was rather lengthy. That part is supposed to sound a little messy, with frantic 8ths on the open hats - what an evil riff, hehe. I wrote some nigh stupid fill-ins for this stuff, haha. At 5:40 there's a brief 16th triplet figure across the tom-toms. I mistakenly struck my left hats when traversing to the floor but it somehow didn't slow me down. Because of the exceptionally dynamic nature of Serge's music, I felt that the uber-quick stuff was necessary to cap off some sections. The ending -- starting around 7:06 -- features some of the most intense drumming I've ever recorded. The campground is located at 3600-foot elevation. It has 57 campsites, including several tent-only sites and 5 double sites, which can accommodate up to 12 people each. Fishing and canoeing in Trillium Lake. Several unimproved roads in the area are great for mountain biking or hiking, and lead variously to the edge of the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness and to the Wild and Scenic Salmon River. In the winter, the Trillium Lake basin has a complex system of roads which are left unplowed for Nordic skiing. They have been groomed in past years; a donation is requested at a box near the road. The trails range from a fairly flat loop around the lake to spurs of varying length and difficulty. One spur, out Sherar Burn Road, is closed to snow machines from January 1 of each year. This is a popular area that receives a lot of use. A sledding hill is across the street at Snow Bunny Sno-Park, and there are additional trails there. This album is a bit of a departure for Paul Ellis, as well as for sequencer EM in general. In addition to synthesizers it features a nice use of guitar, bass, voice and some other acoustic and electric instruments. That doesn't mean, however that Paul's style is unnoticeable, because there are still plenty of rhythmic sequencer tracks done in the typical Paul Ellis manner. On some tracks, Paul is helped by friends Steve Roach, Jeffrey Koepper, Otso Pakarinen and others. So, strictly speaking, some of the tracks on "Silent Conversations" are actually collaborations with other artists. "Trillium" is a Paul Ellis solo synth piece that starts with a slow, echoing sequence of the kind that Paul is so good at. The pace remains slow and relaxed throughout the piece, while the atmosphere is decidedly alien and unearthly. Nice deep bass sounds on this one. Some faster sequences are playing alongside the slow ones, giving the track a rich, full sound, in spite of the fact that the music itself is based almost exclusively on rhythmic elements, with a few weird FX injections here and there.
