SSC Tuatara Interior
Inspired by Jason Castriota's exterior styling, we carried some of the aerospace inspired design, as well as the car's exterior design features, into the interior of the Tuatara. The main gauge cluster area is a glass screen that is lit up by Pico projectors behind, and is similar to a HUD (Heads Up Display). On the driver's side, 2 smaller HUD displays, are located on each side of the steering column; their design inspired by the Tuatara's rear winglets. On the right, the HUD displays the current gear of the car, and is flanked by a shift indicator light tree that provides the driver with valuable shift timing information. The left HUD displays any vital information the driver chooses. These settings are available through a menu on the central command console. The Tuatara will provide a unique, yet thrilling experience to its passengers by making them feel like more of a co-pilot instead of just a tag-along. Included in front of the passenger seat are 2 small auxiliary screens that provide the co-pilot information about the vehicle and their current experience, like its current speed, RPM or BHP. The Tuatara is one of the first production vehicles in the world to give this level of attention to the driving experience of the passenger. Just on the left side of the central console is the red "START" button, which when pressed initiates a clockwise-motion lighting sequence on the red lights located around the start button. The SSC Tuatara at its North American Debut, at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance in Monterey, California. The SSC Tuatara is supercar maker SSC's latest weapon in an ongoing speed war. Shelby's aim is to reclaim the world record from the Veyron SS and Veyron GS. It'll cost $970000 plus tax, when it goes on sale early 2013. And its maker Shelby says it'll reach a whopping top speed of 275mph. The ever-intensifying fastest-car-in-the-world battle is being played out before you. This 1350bhp hypercar designed by Jason Castriota is out to take back the speed record from the Veyron Supersports and Veyron Grandsports. The four-cam 6.8-litre twin-turbo SSC Tuatara engine will rev to 9000rpm and make 1350bhp. Even the blowers are SSC's own design. The SSC Tuatara is already doing these numbers on Shelby's dyno. Unlike the current car, which has some steel in the structure, the new SSC Tuatara will be all-carbon except for aluminium crash rails beyond the wheels front and back. Its transmission is the same all-SSC unit that has been proved in the current car, with the same triple-disc carbon clutch, but it'll have the option of sequential paddle shifting. As you can see from this clip, tuatara aren't very active during the daytime! In fact, even seeing this young male breathe is pretty exciting - they can hold their breath for up to an hour! Tuatara are often referred to as 'living fossils' or even 'living dinosaurs' because they haven't evolved for 220 million years! Although they look superficially like lizards, they have no close living relatives and are in a family all of their own: the Spehnodons. Tuatara live only in New Zealand. They are extremely rare and had become extinct on the main three islands of New Zealand by the late 1700s. In 2005, 70 animals were released into the wild at ZEALANDIA, a unique wildlife safe haven on the edge of Wellington where a specially-designed 8.6km (5 mile) fence keeps out the exotic mammals that threaten creatures like tuatara. Open to visitors 364 days a year, ZEALANDIA is a major tourism attraction and a must-do for anyone wanting to see rare birds and reptiles like tuatara, saddleback, kiwi and giant weta in the wild. Top Gear has let loose another batch of pics showcasing the SSC Ultimate Aero II. In addition to the tantalizing imagery, we get some facts and figures. For starters, this new Ultimate Aero is powered by a 6.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that can scream up to a 9000 rpm redline. Power? 1350 horses, every last drop of which will be needed to hit the targeted top speed of 275 mph. Obviously, this rocketship won't be available for short money; it's going to cost $970000. SSC aims to recapture the production car speed record it initially took away from Bugatti, which responded this year by building the Veryron Supersport just to get it back. Shelby Supercars believes the Ultimate Aero II will once again allow it to take back the speed crown. SSC team isn't simply relying on monster power and a slick Jason Castriota-styled exterior. In a nod to Colin Chapman, the new Aero weighs much less than a Veyron thanks to a handful of engineering feats. The wheels are the world's first one-piece carbon-fiber units and tip the scale at just under 13 pounds. In fact, there's carbon-fiber all over the Ultimate Aero II, with the exception of some aluminum bracing for added safety in the event of a crash. Overall, the car weighs about 2600 pounds, giving it a power-to-weight ratio nearly double that of the Bugatti Veyron. Those specs pretty much say that it isn't so much a question of whether the SSC Ultimate Aero II car will set a record, only when it'll finally happen.

A new SSC. -Info- Shelby SuperCars has unveiled the name of their upcoming supercar, the SSC Tuatara, which should reclaim the position as the fastest production car in the world. Shelby SuperCars (SSC) is an American manufacturer of supercars founded in 1998 by Jerod Shelby. The company is known for the Ultimate Aero TT; equipped with a twin turbocharged V8 which produces 1287bhp (960kW) this car beat the Bugatti Veyron as the world's most powerful production car. On September 13, 2007 the Ultimate Aero was clocked at 414km/h (257mph), resulting in the title of fastest production car in the world. This record has been reclaimed by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. SSC has developed a new car which should take the title once more. Initially known as the Ultimate Aero II, but now SSC has announced the official name of their lastest project: the Tuatara (pronounced twu‐tar‐ah). This name was inspired by a lizard that lives down in New Zealand. The reptile's name translated from the Maori language means "peaks on the back", which is quite fitting, given the winglets on the back of the new car. The tuatara lizard possesses the fastest evolving DNA on the planet, a fact which inspired Jerod Shelby: "Most manufacturers essentially use the same basic model and body shape for up to ten years, while only making small refinements to it each year.
